I’ve been putting this off. It’s a tough one. We all have special furry friends that touch our hearts. This week, BlueHound lost two very special friends. Both were 13 years young.
Buddy the Border Collie. He was so sweet and comical with his ritual of flea biting little leaves.
Winston. Cheese-Walker-Winston. If anyone wants to know that story, they can ask me directly. I don’t want to bore the general public with that one. Winston joins his special sibling, Lady Grace, who we said farewell to in December. It took him a long time to adjust to being loved, but when he figured it out, he gave it back tenfold.
Please keep the families of Buddy and Winston in your thoughts as they navigate through this difficult time. ❤️💔

With Spring being a season of renewal, it is a delicate balance when end of life decisions must be made. Although, often the most compassionate decision we can make, it is without a doubt the most difficult one as a pet parent.  With joy, we celebrate, yet with sadness, we said goodbye to these beloved pets this past week. Our thoughts are with the parents as they navigate through this difficult time.

I love it when science gets serious about using companion animals to help treat serious mental disorders, like PTSD. Researchers at Columbia University have done ground-breaking work on the use of equine-assisted therapy on veterans who are suffering from it.

As someone who knows way too much about the effects of PTSD, I’m grateful they are doing it, and not surprised at the positive outcome. Of course, this kind of therapy is expensive and difficult to get for most people, but it’s another tool in the toolbox and congrats to the researchers who are combining compassion and rigorous science to help people in need.
