Have you considered raising pigs on your homestead? I am a person who does research first. Then I try raising an animal for a year to see if I like them and if they are a good fit for our homestead. I can tell you from experience that IPPs (Idaho Pasture Pigs) are the way to go! They are gentle and friendly. I am able to get in the pen with my 400lb boar and feel perfectly safe. When my sows gave birth, I was right beside each one as the babies came out. We currently have a breeding trio. The sows are great moms and are very gentle lying down. No squished piglets here! They are food motivated, so moving them is easy. They simply follow the food bucket. They are very tasty and nutritious. They are a guaranteed protein source on your homestead. It takes less time to grow out an IPP than a steer. All of your favorite cuts are there, including BACON! Ask me any questions that you may have about this wonderful breed.
