Being as the bears are now in hibernation we need a new use for those hiking bells. They do warn the moose , elk or deer in full rut so our dogs are not surprising any of them as we walk beside our dogs . .

National Deaf Dog Awareness Week Walk
9-27 to 10-14-2024 1 mile

Some are born this way . Others through the work we ask of them , or can creep up with old age .It can be a shock to see our beloved dogs struggle with losing their hearing and the anxiety some can have until we develop ways to communicate with them and keep their cognitive abilities to stay intact. Hearing loss can cause major decline in cognitive function in an older dog as they lose so much input that keeps their brain active. Activities help keep em bright cheerful and mentally active. Walking is a plethora of scents and new things even on the same routes.

My beloved Secret at 11 is pretty much stone deaf now .Was a sudden onset issue. But by keeping her active and actively communicating with her , has her still able to perform and enjoy new skills when I signal her to go and jump on trust doing something she had never done before .
She jumped in TOTAL trust ..

So love your deaf dog and never give up on them .
