Public Service Announcement:
You can work away from home AND keep your dog 😊
Know what? Dogs sleep 12 to 14 hours a day. Get a camera. Guess what your dog is doing while you're at work? Sleeping! They'll sleep with you at night and while you're at work. So that dog you just "rescued" 6 months ago while you were teleworking and now you want to get rid of because you have to go to work - great news! You don't need to. He'll sleep while you're gone and be ready to play when you get home. But he deserves someone who is home with him? Wait, you mean someone who doesn't work? Guess what? Those people can't afford to take care of him. He loves you and he's fine with you earning money to feed him.
Carry on. Go to work. Keep your dog.
Even better - adopt him a friend and they can nap together.

Absolutely brilliant!!
The other day I was at the local public park (not a dog park, but dogs are allowed there). We were walking along in a high movement area so I had my dog on a leash. Another dog, off leash, sees us and starts approaching.
My dog needs her space so we start moving away, but the dog got to us before we could leave. My dog was stressing a little so I politely said to the woman, sorry my dog doesn't want to play and ushered her dog away.
Her dog gets the message and moves on.
Quite good, right? Here comes the juicy part:
As I’m leaving the owner comes to me with a speech more or less like this:
Hey, if your dog is nervous and doesn’t even want to play with other dogs, go somewhere else! Don’t come to the park and ruin other dogs fun.
I heard this and a wave of fury started taking over, but suddenly I think I had a lightbulb moment and switched gears completely.
With the biggest, friendliest smile, I opened my arms as wide as I could and said Ohhhhh! Come here... I want to give you a BIG hug!
With panic in her eyes she backs up, speechless and quickly starts walking away.
I said "Hey, don’t run, I’m so friendly, come on, I only want to give you a hug! I’m friendly I promise... I just want to Hug You!"
Still speechless and backing away with terror now, I said "Wait, You don’t want my friendly hug?"
She yelled No!
I said "Well neither does my dog! Have a nice day.!!!"
As I walked away, I saw her just standing there, speechless and she was leashing her dog! 😅
I think I’ll try this approach more often!🤣

Dog friendly (An existing medium - large size dog in the home REQUIRED as other dogs help Trooper feel more comfortable and confident.)

THE VRC TRAINING PROGRAM IS COMING TO A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR YOU!

Isn't that how the old commercial goes? :) Well nonetheless, I am beyond excited to announce a new program that I have been putting together. It's still in the working stages but with all the requests we get for help in training and people wanting to give up their dogs due to behavioral stuff.....we are finally going to be able to get back to our roots!

For 11 years, I was the trainer for the City of Los Angeles Animal Services. Every Saturday, we conducted obedience classes for the public and their dogs. It was mainly for Pit Bulls but we eventually expanded to all types of dogs.

But then we moved to Louisiana and this little thing called Pit Bulls and Parolees came along and took up most of my life. But the time has come and I've called in some of my "friends in low places" (please tell me that you are familiar with this country song so this can be funny?) and together we are creating a training program that will have something for everybody.

There will be (3) programs available and I will go into more detail as we fine-tune things.

The first program is for behavior modification and we will have a trainer available to do phone & Zoom consultations to help you work through those issues that you may be having with your dog.

Next will be a training workshop with your dog that we will offer here in Louisiana with another one of my trainer friends. It will be a 2-day event and will cover all types of cool stuff.

And last but not least, I am putting together obedience classes that will be offered in selected cities/states conducted by graduates from our prison dog program partners. The men and women who did their time and have been released from prison and also graduated from a prison dog program, will be your trainers! Talk about a win-win-win for everyone. And I can't brag enough how AMAZING these dog handlers and trainers are that come out of these prison dog programs.

So there it is in a nutshell. Stay tuned as I put the finishing touches on the programs and put together all the details.

Helping more dogs and humans...it takes a village!

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!

For the next week or so, the temperatures outside are going to be colder than they have been in years.

There is no excuse to leave you pet outside (I get that you can't bring your horse, etc in the house) but a dog?? Your cat??

If you absolutely cannot bring your pet inside, at least do the right thing and provide proper shelter, hay/straw/blankets for the inside of their house. THIS PHOTO DOES NOT DEPICT PROPER SHELTER!!!

If you see an animal in distress and left to defend themselves against Mother Nature's wrath, take a pic/video, along with the address, and post on your local law enforcement/animal control's FB page along with a follow-up phone call. You may be the single thing that keeps that animal alive.
