2023 is now behind us, and we’re already into late January. Hopefully we’ve all managed to keep track of our New Year’s resolutions. Mine is to take the dogs to more new places so that they can sniff and explore, and that goes for me too! Well, the exploring part.

MEET OUR STAFF | STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Name: Mari King

Job Title: Bather

Years of Grooming Experience: 2 ½ years

Goals: learn how to give breed specific haircuts and any cuts/styles that the client requests. I’ve always had a passion for all animals but there’s something about dogs that I can’t get enough of.

Bio: Mari started my career with dogs working as a bather where she started to pick up a few grooming skills such as paw pad and sanitary trims, shaving around the eyes and poodle feet! What she love about grooming the most is pampering the dog. To make them feel good in their own skin is the most satisfying feeling. To make sure they are loved and cared for is what it’s all about.

Her favorite breed is a Standard Poodle. She loves that they are so fancy and esteemed in the world but their actual nature is hardworking puffballs. They are just beautiful dogs. She has two goofball doodlebugs herself. Murphy is a Goldendoodle and Maxwell is a Sheepadoodle. They are 2 1/2 and 5 1/2. They enjoy hiking and the great outdoors but love a lazy day around the house. A couple fun facts about her is she can sing and she believes that dogs can understand everything we say. 😆

NAME: Hannah Blake

JOB TITLE: Salon Manager, Lead Groomer

YEARS OF GROOMING EXPERIENCE: Hannah has been working in the Grooming Industry since 2005, Nationally Certified since 2012

SPECIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: She love working with the Terrier breeds. From Schnauzers to Bedlingtons, Westies to Wheatons. They tend to be some of her favorite dogs to groom.

GOALS: Hannah wants to bring quality grooming to the community of Bainbridge Island. There is such a need for groomers out here that she hopes to make an impact by raising the standards of not only quality work, but of knowledge and safety surrounding pet grooming and owner education.

BIO: Hannah has been working in the Grooming Industry since 2005, where she volunteered after school at her hometown grooming salon cleaning kennels and bathing dogs. The rest is history! She, along with her Boston Terrier, Siggy and cat, Penny, moved to Bainbridge Island in June 2023 and fell in love with the community. Originally from Oklahoma, Washington state stole her heart from the first time she visited and she am beyond thrilled to be here!

In her down time, you can find her outdoors camping, hiking, crabbing, combing the beaches for lost treasures- though the real reason she came to Washington state was because of her passion for the Orcas that live out here. She studied zoology at Oklahoma State University, with a focus on Marine Studies (as, of course, OSU did not have a marine biology department). She luckily, had a handful of professors who supported her passion and allowed her to tweak her research to focus on her passion and still complete the Zoology courses. Now that she's been in Washington for several years, she has had the amazing honor to witness several different whale and dolphin species, mostly Orca pods, including having an up close encounter with our own Resident J pod right off the rocks at Lime Kiln Lighthouse, a bucket list item for her, crossed off!

Her grooming work centers around not only making the dog look good, but also allowing the pet to be as comfortable and stress free as possible during the grooming process. The services she provides are individually tailored around your pet to make their spa day enjoyable, as well as maintaining a healthy skin and coat for your pet's unique needs. Along with the technical grooming knowledge, she also enjoys doing creative grooming, including dyes, glitter tattoos, feather extensions, gem applications, and more.

Fun fact: we just implemented a fancy new software that will allow you to upload your pet(s) vaccination record so it can be the most up to date at all times! You can access our Customer Portal at saltydogwash.portal.gingrapp.com using the email address or phone number we have on file. If you aren’t registered yet, you can also sign up at the link above.

You can also email an attachment of the record to [email protected] or simply bring a copy with you to your appointment! PLEASE NOTE: any pet not up to date on their Rabies vaccine by a licensed veterinarian will kindly be asked to reschedule, as this is mandated by the state. Thank you!

9 years ago we opened Salty Dog Wash and are very proud of this business. We will soon be transitioning to new a new ownership group and want to thank you all for supporting us over the years. Patty and Alison will be moving on to new adventures and will celebrate their last day on June 30th from 10am-12pm with cookies and lemonade for those who want to stop by and say good-bye.
