Ava was a trooper for her first set of puppy vaccinations today! But you may ask “Why do puppies need so many vaccinations?!?” Here is why: Very young animals are highly susceptible to infectious diseases because their immune systems are not yet mature. In many instances, the first dose of a vaccine prepares your pet’s immune system to recognize the virus or bacteria. Later doses help further stimulate the immune system to produce the important antibodies needed to protect your pet from disease. 🦠

Look at this beautiful girl! Georgia was here today for her yearly appointment with Dr. Rediger. The video shows her receiving her bordetella (bor-duh•teh• luh) vaccination. Also known as kennel cough, this canine infectious respiratory disease has been around in dogs for decades. It is easily spread from dog to dog through aerosol droplets, direct contact, or contact with contaminated surfaces like water bowls and toys. Despite kennel cough’s contagious nature, the disease is usually very treatable.
