Today we got to meet Alice and Peanut Butter! ๐
Alice (shown first) has been here at the SPCA for over 3 years now. She is a little insecure and shy upon meeting but very food motivated. You can see me tossing treats for her and this helped her get more comfortable without that social pressure to interact. She was also taking some treats from my hand and can see she is with another dog here doing well. The shelter says she has done well with multiple dogs. I also had her doing some agility later on and she was all for it as long as there were treats ๐ she is amazing with the staff and super affectionate with those she knows well. She has been returned before, she has no bite history but needs to be placed with someone who will be able to meet her needs but also has the patience to work with her in her adjustment to her new home. Again she's been in the shelter for a very long time and that can take a toll, making it harder to adjust into future homes.
Next is Peanut Butter (brindle mix). She is a firecracker! She's been in the shelter for a little over a year. Still very young and has been returned before for her high energy. She's independent and an overall goofball. Very food motivated. She seemed more interested in taking in her environment than the agility equipment but she did a few things. She definitely will need some training on some basic manners as she has some demanding behaviors (jumping up, barking) but learns quickly and eager to please. Very gentle when taking food and wanted to interact right away. Will do really well especially after she learns some new skills.
Remember it takes approximately 3 months for dogs to adjust to a new home. The dog you see in the shelter will be different when you bring them home and also as more time goes by in your home. We want to help you start off on the right foot with your new dog. I want to thank Kristin and the rest of their amazing staff for letting me come out. If you visit, ask them about our shelte
