Happy July everybody😎☀️🎆 The 4th of July is coming up and you’ve probably already noticed the sound of people setting off fireworks in your neighborhood. Remember to keep a close eye on your pets these next few days, especially on the night of the fourth, because so many dogs and cats get scared and end up running away. Remember to keep your pets inside this 4th of July. Check with your veterinarian about giving your pet tranquilizers.

Hope everybody is staying cool this weekend!😎☀️ Be sure to keep an eye on your pets, and don’t leave them outside for too long. Along with the heat, the air quality has been bad from the fires. Remember: if it’s too hot for you, it’s DEFINITELY too hot for your pets.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT from Mt. Vernon Vet : Always get your dogs and cats spayed or neutered. Bakersfield has a huge stray animal problem, and the animal shelters are always over crowded. If you want kittens or puppies, there is a large selection of them at the animal shelters here in town. Not only will spaying and neutering keep more potential animals by out of the pounds, but your pet will be much healthier and have a higher chance of living longer.
We also discourage from buying pets from breeders. Many of the dogs coming from breeders have genetic disorders that can mean a lifetime of treatment and costs to the buyer. There are hundreds of healthy, adoptable dogs, puppies, cats and kittens in the shelters that need good homes. These animals can be loving, loyal pets for many years to come.

Pumpkin and Spice are two of our longest inhabiting office cats that are in need of a home. The are both pretty shy but VERY sweet. We like to call them “the twins” because their personalities are so similar. If you are interested in adopting them, let us know by messaging us or calling. They MUST go together because they are a bonded pair.

⚠️ATTENTION⚠️ It’s going to be a HOT weekend🥵 so be sure to keep your animals INSIDE. Especially for overweight pets, pets with darker coats, and dogs with flat faces. Pugs, boxers, bull dogs, bullies, and shih tzus tend to have a harder time in the heat. If you notice your pet overheating, give them a cool bath, running cold water over their body, focusing on the armpits and groin, and take them to an emergency vet. Keep your pets safe from the heat! ☀️😎

The 4th of July and New Years Eve are the 2 night of the year that pets go missing the most because they get scared by the fireworks and escape out of their owners yards. Be sure to keep your dogs and cats INSIDE this weekend and the night of the 4th so they don’t run away. If your pet is easily scared by fireworks, we sell tranquilizers that you can give them. Stay safe everybody!

This is Rogue. Too sleepy to keep eyes open, too stubborn to lay down😹 Dr. Shane rescued her from the wilds of Idaho. She was a barn cat but she enjoys her life as an indoor cat now.

We hope everybody is having a good Memorial Day!🇺🇸 Luckily it’s not going to be too hot today. These little puppies were all coming in for vaccinations a few weeks ago. Aren’t they the cutest?😍🐶
