Warmer weather is approaching Kern County, and you know what that means! It is mosquito season! 🦟🦟🦟

Here at BLAH we have seen a major increase in the amount of mosquitoes recently and we wanted to remind everyone to vaccinate their horses for West Nile Virus. Our office saw two out of the three positive West Nile Virus cases in the county last year. Don’t let your horse 🐴be one of them this year!

As we approach the month of April, we encourage everyone to call our office and make a vaccination appointment. In the spring we vaccinate for West Nile Virus, Eastern & Western Equine Encephalomyelitis, Tetanus, Influenza, and Rhinopneumonitis.

Foaling season is upon us! 🐴🐴🐴

Here at Bakersfield Large Animal we see lots of young foals in need of a little boost to start life healthy and strong!

This foal in the images below did not receive enough colostrum within the first 8 hours of birth. To prevent sepsis or other severe illness, we supplement an IV plasma bag along with additional antibiotics to boost its immune system. Foals can become critically ill without enough colostrum, so proper administration of plasma can prevent such infections.

Bakersfield Large Animal Hospital, Inc. will be running a special in August and September 2020 on PPID testing for horses that are getting their first test for Equine Cushing's Disease, and are not currently on any treatment for Equine Cushing's Disease (PPID).
If your horse is showing any of the signs listed, call the office to schedule an appointment at (661) 832-1150.

COVID-19 Office Update:

To our clients, BLAH will remain open with a limited staff for Emergency & Necessary appointments We will maintain our normal hours of Monday - Friday 8-12 &1-5, and Saturday hours of 8-12. We are taking precautions in the office to limit exposure and disinfecting between clients. Should you have any questions, please call the office at 661-832-1150.

BLA Moving Update!

Our office will be moving this coming weekend! For those who haven't heard yet, BLA will be moving out to Panama Equine's location at:

5429 Taft Highway Bakersfield, CA 93313

We will be closed for moving Friday, May 25 - Monday, May 28, 2018. Our doctors will still be available for emergency service through this time. The phone number will remain the same.

But if you need anything or have an appointment, starting Tuesday, May 29, 2018 we will be out at the Taft Highway location!
