It’s Day 5, and we’re excited to reveal yesterday’s x-ray answer – it was Amber, our female golden eagle! Who guessed it right?

Today is the final day, and we’re revealing our last mystery x-ray tonight at 7pm! You’ll have a shorter window to guess, but we think you’ll have a relatively easier time figuring this one out. 👀 Who do you think this final x-ray belongs to? Check back at 7pm for the big reveal!

It’s Day 4, and we’re shell-shocked to reveal the Day 3 x-ray answer – it was indeed Macaroni, our fabulous female western pond turtle! 🐢 Who guessed her right? Let us know in the comments!

We saw lots of creative guesses about her x-ray. For turtles, the act of being pregnant is actually called “gravid” in egg-laying species. Macaroni came to CALM already mature and retaining s***m (which for her species, storing s***m for years is possible) meaning these eggs were a result of breeding that may have happened long before. How cool is that?

Today’s mystery bones seem quite majestic… Can you guess the animal behind this x-ray? Leave your guesses below, and check back tomorrow at 12pm for the big reveal!

However, before we get too ahead of ourselves, we are revealing our day 2 bones which belongs to Scruggs, a male badger. Who guessed it correctly?!

Come back tomorrow at 12pm for the Day 3 reveal.

We’re celebrating Halloween with a spooky twist! Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing X-rays of some of our CALM residents for you to guess who’s hiding beneath the bones. Each X-ray was taken during a routine wellness exam to help us keep a close check on our animals’ health and well-being.

Take your best guess, and tune in at 12 PM the following day for the big reveal! 🦴✨

WHEW! We certainly felt the love this last week during our annual Boo at the Zoo festivities. We had thousands of you show up in costumes, playing games, riding the train, watching our animals receive their spooktacular treats, and, more importantly, supporting CALM in raising enough funds to continue helping us help wildlife.

A special thank you to all of our volunteers for helping us put it all together and to Dennys, for passing out their own goodie bags and generously sponsoring this event.

Pumpkins are still for sale for $5 at CALM - stop by before your Halloween festivities!

Did you know cougars are the largest of the “small cats” and they can purr but they cannot roar? Plus, they have over 40 English names throughout America! You may know them as cougar, puma, mountain lion, catamount, mountain screamer, painter, red tiger, and American lion, just to name a few. The names do tend to be regional to different areas but they all refer back to the one and only puma concolor (that is their scientific name).

We recently did wellness checks for our cougars Sage & Laurel. You can read all about it in our latest Critter Capers here: https://bit.ly/3ZUK2gc
