Last year’s KEEP CALM Jamboree made waves, and this year will be even better! Don’t miss rocking the stage at CALM on Friday, April 25! 🌊⚓️

In conjunction with our Roses or Roaches Campaign for Valentine's Day, we have a very exciting opportunity to get behind the scenes and meet some of our Cats of California up close and personal!

The purpose of this campaign is to help us purchase enrichment toys for our animals at CALM. Enrichment is the method we use to stimulate the physical and psychological well-being of our animals, and it can be very costly.

If you would like to sponsor this experience for $500, you and a guest will receive a surprise gift while also having the opportunity to meet some of CALM’s Cats of California. Plus, our Animal Keepers and cougars will prepare a special Valentine's presentation just for you! This amazing experience will be held on Friday, February 14 or another day of your choosing. More details will be provided once you are selected.

It’s official—the Cats of California at CALM have spoken, and they’re unanimously predicting an Eagles victory this year! 🦅💚

Will they be right? Only time will tell, but we’re excited to see if their whiskers are in tune with the game!

Thank you all who were able to make it out for the big prediction and a huge shout out to our Animal Keepers: Kourtney, Jewelia, and Natalie for their creativity and making it happen!

Today, CALM received an amazing donation from KCSOS's Alternative Education program—a freshly refurbished golf cart! We want to extend a big thank you to the APEX EV Auto CTE students from KCSOS Alternative Education for repairing the cart for us and then donating it. With the guidance of their dedicated CTE instructors, support from the KCSOS Transportation Department, and the partnership of Kern County Probation Department, this project highlights the incredible potential of hands-on learning. We are incredibly grateful! 💫

Sometimes, love is rosy; other times, it’s a pest. That’s why CALM is happy to celebrate love with roses AND roaches for our 2nd Annual Roses or Roaches Valentines Fundraiser!

From now until February 9, we are asking our CALM community to donate $5 to dedicate either a beautiful rose or a pesky cockroach to a special person in your life. Whichever you choose, we know a couple of animals who will be happy to accept the treats on Valentine's Day.

On Friday, February 14th, guests can visit CALM during some of the presentations. Additionally, we will share videos of some of our animal residents enjoying their personalized roses or roaches. The choice between a rose and a roach will depend on the resident's diet, making it a fun and unexpected treat for them.

The Super Bowl is just days away, and we’d love for you to join us to see which team the Cats of California are rooting for!

In past years, our bears, Cinnamon and Louie, have made the big prediction. But since they’re still enjoying their winter rest, this year, the cats will be stepping up to make their choice!

Join us on Thursday, February 6 at 2:30 PM for a special Cats of California presentation! Admission to this presentation is included with a regular CALM admission, which is $12 for adults, $8 for children 3-12, $9 for seniors 60+, and free for CALM members, children two and under, and military/veterans with ID.

Choo Choo! Our Central California Children's Railroad is back on the tracks and running this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, from 11am - 3pm. For only $2 per rider, you can enjoy unlimited rides.

Happy Rattlesnake Appreciation Day! 🐍

Did you know that California has seven different species of rattlesnakes? Three of these seven species can be seen at CALM, including this Northern Pacific Rattlesnake Gunther.

Rattlesnakes get their name from the rattle at the end of their tails. The rattles are hollow and made from the same material as your fingernails, keratin! When they shake their tails, the segments of their rattles vibrate against each other, making a buzzing sound; they do this to warn others of their presence. Rattlesnakes are great to have in the environment as they help control rodent populations and, as a result, also help remove disease vectors like ticks that carry Lyme disease.

Our reptile house features more of our snake collection. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. See you soon!

Therefore, we wanted to take a moment today to celebrate International Day of Education! Our zoo staff strives to provide great learning opportunities for our community through educational presentations and outreach throughout the year during our events. ✨

While Raptor Round Renovations are still in progress, we have some residents moving back in! Our Turkey Vultures, Righty, Lefty, and TeeVee, moved in with our Crows and Raven. They are located across from the Condors. Come say hello - the weather is expected to be absolutely beautiful! 🌞

CALM is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays. We are closed on Mondays.
