Today was a good day.🎶
Maverick got a nail trim & a good brush because this moody weather has the dogs shedding like crazy! I bought these gloves after seeing them online and they are so good. Messy, but so easy. I forgot a before and after, but what a difference! Maverick loves it, too. ♥︎ After many discussions, we have come to the conclusion that Maverick will become a permanent hospice foster under the rescue and not be available to adopt. We are open to local fosters in the Temple, TX area so that we can keep up with his monthly injections and monitor his cancer regrowth. I am sad, but also know he has been loved and given a second chance with us thanks to all of you fighting the fight with him all these years.

We picked up some watermelon from the farmers market and Maverick definitely enjoyed it. Who doesn't love a slow mo of his jowls 😆. Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Maverick Update!

Maverick had his 4th, and last, hemangiosarcoma surgery on his shaft! We are incredibly blessed to have found this vet by chance and that she was able to do a surgery we were previously told was not an option. This will hopefully buy the big boy some more quality time as there are no signs of it spreading yet. 🙌🏼 During the removal of the lump shown above, she also removed a red birthmark like tumor from the other side along with cauterize a bunch of smaller ones. Maverick was pretty swollen and sore for a few days before starting to feel himself again. He is a trooper though!

The second thing is his arthritis and back end. When Maverick arrived, I thought he was just stiff from the trip. During Jethro's quick decline I noticed Maverick getting worse and walking with his back end slipping & wobbly. When running, he had a side gallop and would trip over easily and fall. He was shaking and walking while pooping as well. We got him in where they ran bloodwork and did reflex tests. Bloodwork came back clean, but his toes curled and took some time to go back. He started on 30 days of carprofin where I saw slight change. Thanks to @stacybug85 for recommending adequan injections, I asked our vet and got that started May 21st!! He gets them each Tuesday & Friday right now, and then we can hopefully move to monthly. The improvement I have seen seems unreal! Not just in his physical health, but his mental health ❤️😭 Maverick isn't falling over anymore. He isn't shaking while pooping. His reflexes seem better and he isn't sliding when walking around the house! He is happy and baying again now too!
