💚 Christmas Maverick ❤️

Maverick is 13½! Can you believe we have had him for 5 years. A journey we didn't know about, ask for, or were prepared for when picking him up from the shelter with no medical concerns or notes only to have him bleeding from a tumor upon transport. WE stuck by him. YOU stuck by him. Maverick has been through so much and passed over due to his health until we placed him as a forever foster so we could continue his care. THANK YOU for all you have done for him.

Maverick has had 6 surgeries on his sheath/groin area and has no extra skin to remove the ones that keep coming back now. He also had the ones on his back leg removed. The hemangiosarcomas on his sheath started growing back faster and then the neck one popped up. We are keeping Maverick comfortable with meds, supplements, and his monthly adequan injection. He has been a fighter through this all! His quality of life is still there and he absolutely LOVES hanging out with my female dog as well as my parents female dog when she comes over. Happy hops and tail wags are all we can ask for ♥︎♥︎

Maverick hasn't had an accident in what seems like forever! I am thinking it is just tummy trouble ls from a bad bag of dog food or something. I ordered metronidazole and dewormer to cover all basis. He and one of my personal dogs has sensitive stomachs, so they both had it for two days after opening the new bag. I have been using Costco 40lb bags for years now and praying we don't have to switch to more expensive food.

I am going to try to be better about posting for what remaining time he has. Maybe weekly updates since we only have 2 sanctuary cases.

Happy Easter🐰🐶
Easter felt a little different this year because Plum isn't here to do her bunny ear photos 🥺 It's something her foster did each year with her 💗
I bought a pair to do with our crew, but they broke before the first photo. I'm honestly glad they did because a throwback to all Plum's photos seems perfect. Thank you Jackie for loving her, and all your fosters, like family.

Cassie has healed so well from her surgery despite some obstacles. Her stitches were removed from both her neck and her. While her leg has healed flawlessly, Cassie's neck has a lot of scar tissue. It's more than I'd like to see or have seen before, but it's down the center of her neck between to skin folds and old lady skin at that. Even in the video when she shakes you can see it flapping around lol. Cassie's neck is a little irritated because of the cone to keep her from licking the ropes burn that happened from the crap leg sling that was supposed to stop her from licking her leg stitches because they were getting infected since she couldn't wear a cone due to her neck stitches. Anyways, WE MADE IT THROUGH! We finally get the results from her biopsy tomorrow! I don't know if good vibes and prayer will work since the results are in already, but please keep them coming until I get the call tomorrow 🫶🏼🙏🏼

Day 2 & Day 3
After the rough first day after surgery, things slowly got better for Cassie. I hand fed her four times a day, then three times a day, and then down to twice a day for the next week. Luckily she was able to eat out of a bowl after the first couple of days. Cassie is NOT an easy pill taker lol. She spits them out, eats around them, and always knows I'm hiding them. Obviously, I couldn't stuff them down and rub her throat due to her surgery site. I am so grateful she loves wet food so much she swallowed it whole! What a relief!
As you can see she is wearing a harness to keep her on place in our main living area the first few days so I could keep a close eye on her. One step closer and STILL waiting on the results.

CASSIE'S RECOVERY DAY ONE
A little rough, but worth it. Surgery went well removing the tumor off of her neck/throat and they even had time to remove another tumor off her back leg (her left. my right lol).
Cassie was OUT of it, poor girl. She messed herself when they brought her out to me. She couldn't walk at all and was pretty sedated still. She p*ed herself on the ride home, so I cleaned her up with baby wipes, antibacterial foam, and layers and clean p*e pads. Her temp was low so we covered her with blankets and swapped out the p*e pads each time she had an accident. Cassie got up and tried to make it to the back door, but p*ed all the way there. She is the best girl and save her diarrhea for the grass. Thank you so much, Cass!
Cassie's bill was the very high-end estimate of $980, unfortunately. Thank you everyone who donated and shared to help cover most of it 🫶🏼🙏🏼 Ya'll are so amazing! We get her results back in 2-5 days, so keep those good vibes coming her way please.

On my way to pick up our girl! She was not happy I left her there and kept trying to pull to leave with us instead of the vet tech 🥹 no news is good news, right!?! I always get antsy with surgeries no matter how many we have been through.

Can you tell we are a little shocked by the estimate at first. Swipe ⬅️ to see. Then we realized the reason Maverick's surgery was $200 less was because his wasn't sent to pathology since we had it done with 2 out of his 5 surgeries.
For Cassie, I estimated $500 for all (forgetting about pathology) and wasn't far off. This unfortunately doesn't include a heartworm test $30, heartworm prevention $159.99, and annual vaccines $80. That brings us to $775 on the low end. We used $100 for the first appointment, so we have a little extra ro raise for her surgery on March 24th. Thank you for getting us this far in such a short period! I know we can get the rest of the way because ya'll are so amazing 🥹🥰

Sound up in the beginning for Cassie's cute snores lol. Gosh, she is the sweetest ♥︎
First off, I want to THANK YOU for the love and support of our senior gal in need! I am beyond grateful for your kindness and always coming through for our dogs (and us) when we really need it. 🫶🏼🐶🐾 Thank you for the prayers and good vibes for her. Please keep them coming her way.
Cassie has had this tumor for 5 years and saw two vets at separate offices while in Bakersfield, CA who both said it was nothing to need removal unless it chnaged. Well, it started growing. Our vet went to take a biopsy, but got blood the first draw. After it drained, he was able to go in a second time and get the tissue sample. After looking at it under the microscope, it wasn't completely clear yet also wasn't a clear cancerous sample and he was not comfortable with the results. Hopefully this means we caught it early! The office was extremely busy for any same day care and is booked 2½ months out so he is squeezing us in on March 24th to get it taken care of quick. They will be sending over an estimate for her mass removal, pathology, and senior blood panel. She will also get her heartworm prevention as well as vaccines. As soon as I get it, I will make a new post for her with it like usual. Her bill was only $94 so the rest will go towards her surgery, which I'll update as well.
