IMPORTANT UPDATES: Lots of info-sorry for the long post
1) We will be closed from NOON on Wednesday Nov 27th and reopen at 7:30 on Monday Dec 2nd for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
2) We will be closed from NOON on Tuesday Dec 24th and reopen on Thursday Jan 2nd.
3) FINANCIALLY IMPORTANT!!!! We have been notified AGAIN, that outside labwork will be seeing an increase of ~20% starting Jan1st. PLEASE, if you need labwork completed and you wish to save some money, please schedule your pet to have this done before the end of the year.
4) I've mentioned it in previous posts but be aware that at some point we will be making the transfer over to the 3% surcharge on credit cards (not debit) soon. This is due to the staggering cost of the fees we pay to accept credit cards. We chose not to pass onto people paying by Debit cards.
5) My wife and I have not raised our service fees in several years. Most Vets raise their fees 5% or more 1-2x times per YEAR! Some fees will be going up in 2025. Everything business related has increased drastically over the last two years. License/permit/DEA/Radiology/Etc fees have increased, utilities, as we are all aware, have increased dramatically (Business especially), all of our supplies have almost doubled or tripled in cost. It makes me sad and discouraged to see the rising Veterinary care for our pets becoming so expensive. I blame a LOT of this on Corporations being greedy and the influx of Corporate Veterinary Medicine (who, in some cases, also own the outside labs we use (Think Mars Candy Company who owns VCA, Antech, Banfield, Anicure, BluePearl, Creature Comforts, Gentle Oak, Hillside, Linnaeus, Mount Pleasant, Talwal, VES, VSH, Eukanuba, IAMS, Nutro, Pedigree and Royal Canin). This in turn has lead to multiple consolidations in Veterinary related industries and has limited competition thereby increasing costs. Currently, almost half the Veterinary Practices in Bakersfield are now owned by a big Corporation.
6) Dr Sheahan is still the ONLY Board Certified Veterinarian in Bakersfield.
7) We still set most appointments for 30 mins. We DO NOT double and triple book appts like the vast majority of Vets do in Bakersfield. Your scheduled time is your time (emergencies however always take priority) and not 2-5 minutes with Dr and the rest taken up by staff like the norm. We continue to believe that a one on one relationship with your Vet is better than one trying to just churn as many clients in a day as they can to maximize profit. Further, Dr Sheahan is always willing to go over Radiographs and treatment at the time of discharge. I can't begin to tell you the number of clients that get handed their pet after a surgery, an invoice and a receptionist telling you everything went fine without ever seeing or talking to the Vet at another Hospital prior to becoming clients here. That to me is shocking. Currently we have one local Vet that Dr Sheahan reported to the state board after he diagnosed (incorrectly and so so so many mistakes) with tetanus without ever actually examining the dog or running any tests. The person contacted us, we saw the dog and it was mind boggling just how badly this dog had been misdiagnosed. Sadly, because of the delay in treatment caused by the misdiagnosis, this caused permanent injury to this dog. Unfortunately this is not the first time this Vet has misdiagnosed a pet. Remember, you are always entitled to a second opinion (even from us) and we would always advise people to seek one when they are unsure or uncomfortable
