💖 Baldwin City 4th grader Ms. Kassity Farley made this beautiful water bowel and donated it to CAH for animals to drink from on hot days☀️! 🐕‍🦺 Look for it at the front entrance of the clinic when you arrive or leave 🦮. Thanks Kassity for thinking of our furry friends who need to stay extra hydrated during the summer 🐶! They sure appreciate all your hard work into making a special bowl for them ❤️! Kassity has two dogs of her own and we know they are loved unconditionally and very spoiled thanks to Kassity and her family 🐾!

UPDATE!!! A nurse mare has been found for Miss Cleo! Thank you to all our KsCER friends who spread the word!👏👏👏👏👏

ATTENTION FRIENDS OF KSCER…. We need your help locating a nurse mare.

This sweet girl Cleo lost her mom today.🥺She is 11 days old. Her owners are great people located near Lawrence, Kansas and would treat this mare like a queen.❤️ Mare would need to be able to stay onsite at their farm and would be pampered to no end.

We had a special arrival today at CAH. A momma goat and her newborn came because momma was having trouble. Dr Beck was able to pull the stuck baby (the black one) and save her sweet life. When they left everyone was healthy!

🐾❄️ FREEZING TEMPS: Beyond the Chill ❄️🐾

Freezing temperatures are much more dangerous than your average winter in the midwest. As this spell of record freezing temperatures lingers around the metro, a quick reminder of the importance of how quickly frostbite and hypothermia can set in for not just us but our pets. 🐶🐱🐴

Dog Boots for Paw Protection:
🐾Dog boots are a practical option to shield your pets from ice melt, salt, and harsh chemicals on sidewalks.

Paw Cleaning After Outdoor Adventures:
🧼 For non-boot wearers, make sure to thoroughly wipe down and clean paws and toes post outdoor excursions.

Post-Walk Paw Pampering:
After wiping away any sidewalk treatments, treat paws with paw balm or coconut oil to prevent cracking and splitting.

Beware of Additional Factors:
❄️ Windchill: Keep an eye on those gusts!
🌧️ Dampness/Excessive Moisture: Increases the risk of hypothermia and frostbite.
☁️ Overcast Days: Intensify the risk of sickness and falls.

Watch for Signs of Hypothermia:
❄️ Shivering
❄️ Slowed or shallow breathing
❄️ Weakness or lethargy

Signs of Frostbite:
🌬️ Skin discoloration (pale, blue, gray, or black)
🩹 Abnormalities like redness, stiffness, swelling, and blisters with discharge
🚨 Extremely painful to the touch

First Aid for Frostbite:
🌡️ Cover the affected area immediately with a warm, dry towel or blanket.
🚑 All cases, even mild ones, need vet treatment to assess severity—solutions may include antibiotics, topical creams, pain medication, and more.
🏥 Seek treatment IMMEDIATELY if the skin becomes dark.

Preventing Frostbite:
🐾 Ensure your pet's fur is dry before exposing them to cold conditions.
⏰ Limit outdoor exposure to quick potty breaks.

Santa stopped by CAH today to check in with Dr. Jones to make sure his Naughty or Nice list is correct. Did your fur baby make the nice list this year? The Potter family brought in their new pup, Milo, and Dr. Jones said he definitely made the Nice list!
