A comfortable silence whispered over the unspoken promise exchanged when your eyes first met. Together you share a grueling conviction. He rewards your dedication with a persistent plea for your companionship. If only he knew the feeling was mutual. On that dark, crisp morning you embark to fulfill his inherent purpose. Four earnest eyes scan the horizon with a concealed intensity when that Lone D

uck interrupts the desolate sky. The crack of your gun unleashes a frantic hunger to retrieve his fallen prize. He returns, fully saturated and satisfied, with the fragrance of gun powder generously lingering. Together you celebrate a promise kept. Your binding faith is one that most can’t comprehend. They neglect the depth of the instinctive understanding you have for each other. Like the exuberant validation you shared in the field with that first Lone Duck. It’s feelings like this that remind you they’re reserved for a select few. There’s no need to fill them with empty words.

These 3 Yellow pups (roughly 6months old) are looking for homes. They were transferred to me with hopes of being potential detection dogs for police or military work but unfortunately I don’t think they’ll make the cut. The 2 girls should make nice family pets with duck dog potential and the boy will make a sweet family pet. If you know of anyone looking for an inexpensive addition to their family for this summer please have them reach out for more info.
They’re sweet natured, good with people, kids, and other dogs, not fully house broke but we have them crate trained. They’re working on leash manners, basic obedience, and social skills.
AKC Registered, decent pedigree- nothing too flashy but has hunt test titles on the top side
Up to date on shots and I’ve dewormed them.

Well said! Enjoy the ride and hit your goals! The age of the dog doesn’t matter as long as you’re both having fun, improving, and moving the needle forward! What’s the rush?

• enjoy the dog you have •

If you want a Master National, Grand Champion dog.. chances are, your dog is going to run the minor stakes. Why? Because why the hell not. I have seen so many pros get in the rat race to get these dogs to a finished/master level. How quick can I get this dog running master. How fast can I get that master title.

Since when did we stop enjoying the process of building a dog through the stages of getting there, and running them along the way? Since when did we stop enjoying throwing water on our clients head more than once for new titles? I met my wife as a pro, running started. I have a huge amount of respect for the clients that want to enjoy their dog all the way through. And in fact- I want to teach them to run their own dogs if they feel comfortable. So let’s get back to enjoying the whole journey again, not just the finished product.

The good and the bad. Let’s get back to running our dogs because it’s fun, and because we can. I don’t care if that ribbon says junior or master on it. It’s an accomplishment that deserves credit. The world is already in such a demand for instant satisfaction, let’s not make this sport - something that should be enjoyed, part of it.

In 1925, diphtheria affected an isolated village in Alaska. Due to the severe cold, it was not possible to transport the medicines by plane and ship, so the transport of the medicines to the town of Noma was organized with the help of mushers (guides or drivers of a dog sled team).

About 1120 miles (1800 kilometers) had to be covered in five days. There were several teams and they took turns on different sections. The Norwegian Gunnar Kasen and his main dog Balto were the first to bring the serum to the village.

It turned out that Kasen had not made a mistake in choosing the main dog, because when the team had an accident, Balto helped his musher, saving him from certain death.

When the storm reached its peak and visibility became low they crossed 85 km. Balto is considered a hero, and in 1925 a monument was erected to him in Central Park in New York.

He was truly a hero, like all the other dogs during this mission. However, the dog that did the most difficult part of the work was Togo who crossed the longest distance 260 miles (418 kilometers). He was part of Leonardo Seppala team of dogs. Togo is the husky, in the photo.

Togo was already known for his incredible leadership qualities, which he demonstrated again in this race.

The mission was successfully completed and these brave dogs saved numerous lives.

To collar condition your gun dog or not is a tough decision for many new trainers. If you choose to collar condition your dog, this article will give you some helpful advice during the process.

Matt Tuttle, of Copperwood Kennels, effectively trains all his dogs with an e-collar. Matt explains, “The e-collar is by far one of the most useful tools any trainer can have in their bag. Although an e-collar is very effective, it is also widely misused.”

“As with every step in your gundog training, you must keep one thing in mind, take it slow! Whether you’re introducing your dog to gunfire, teaching casting, or introducing them to the e-collar, the important thing to remember is to take your time. You want to truly instill each concept into your retriever’s head before “TESTING” these concepts.”

Introducing your dog to water... let's talk about it.

Going into it, you want to pump that dog up. Get them excited. Get that retrieve drive going. Grab a few bumpers and start teasing your dog, getting them to chase it around.

Next, wade into the water yourself and coax/tease the pup to follow! If that's not possible, you can start throwing the bumpers into the water right on the edge. Not too far! Slowly but surely, your dog will start feeling comfortable in the water.

Before you know it, you've got a water dog!

What you DON'T want to do is grab hold of their collar and drag them in. This can create a water-shy dog. Don't want that.

Head over to our YouTube channel to watch Prairie Dog's introduction to water when she was just a pup!

FIRST AID KIT ESSENTIALS! 👇🏼

No accident is ever planned so you should always be ready for a little chaos during a hunt with your dog. Some guys like to have all sorts of medicines and fancy bandages in their pack but I prefer to keep it smart and keep it simple. That said, be sure to adjust your kit based on where you are.

Here’s a few things I always have on hand:

🦆 Hydrogen Peroxide: If you dog ingests something they shouldn’t, use this to make them vomit. Use 1 tsp per 10 lbs of weight. Warning: this gets messy.
🦆Tweezers or forceps: Feel free to raid the medicine cabinet and snag a pair of these in case your dog comes in contact with a nasty thorn, something stuck in their nose, or (God forbid) a porcupine.
🦆 Ace Bandage: These can be real handy for you and for your dog. If you happen to run into some barbed wire while hunting a field, you’ll want to close up the wound, wrap it and visit your vet immediately.
🦆 Duct Tape: This solves most problems in life, so keep it on hand.
🦆 Saline Solution: Definitely keep this on hand. Often times when we’re field hunting, our dogs are running through dense brush and can get all sorts of things in their face and potentially, their eyes. Flush their eyes with saline for quick cleaning to keep their sight right.
