It seems that we have lost another wonderful Veterinary service in our CNY area. We would like to wish all the folks at the Animal Kingdom the best of luck in their future endeavors. After 31 years you certainly made your mark in the community and will be missed. Cheers ! All the Best,

Just to inform you that we will be CLOSING at 2pm on November 20th for a Celebration of Life gathering for a dear friend and colleague Dr. Josh Moell who passed away unexpectedly November 8th.
Many of you may have met Dr. Josh through the years while doing relief work here at our hospital. He was a skilled and dedicated veterinarian. Both kind and compassionate to the animals he cared for and their human counterparts.
His loss will weigh heavy on the hearts of all of us here at Beaver Lake Animal Hospital and the entire Central New York Veterinary Community.
We will open for normal hours on Tuesday Nov. 21st.
Thank You for your understanding.

Happy Halloween, folks! Just a friendly reminder, pets should not eat chocolate... if your mischievous dog happens to get into your Halloween stash, please call for medical advice. The toxic amount depends upon the weight of the animal and also the type of chocolate eaten (dark chocolate is ten times as toxic than milk chocolate bc of the high concentration of the active ingredient). Store your candy in a safe place, and Happy Halloweening!

As many people in CNY are by now aware, the 24/7 Emergency Clinic in Syracuse (VMC) needs to severely limit its hours of operation and/or the caseload it admits. Hopefully, this is a temporary situation. See the attached graphic for some general guidelines to help you decide if your situation is truly an emergency before driving a great distance to an alternate emergency clinic. Alternatively, VMC offers a telemedicine triage service (link available on their website www.vmccny.com) to help guide pet parents through these decisions after hours, as well as a list of alternate emergency rooms that can provide care if the situation cannot wait until the next day.

Happy Fall! Please remember to use your regular flea/tick preventative medications for all pets. With many topical, collar, and oral options available, there is something for everyone! Call us at 315-635-6241 to discuss what options are best for your pet today. Prevention is the best strategy.

Fallen leaves provide black-legged ticks with suitable habitat via higher humidity and lower temperatures within the leaf litter, as well as protection from exposure over winter. 🍂🍁

Ear mites.... ewwww! These creepy crawlies are easily treatable, commonly found in cats and kittens and occasionally puppies. It is rare in mature dogs. If your pet has itchy and inflamed ears, cytologic diagnosis is essential to determine if the cause of the infection is yeast, bacteria, or parasites, like those seen in the video below: Have a happy Memorial Day Weekend from Beaver Lake Animal Hospital!

A worthy event!

Tomorrow, it's gonna be May which we know as Lyme disease awareness month.

We cannot think of a better way to kick off LDAM than by inviting you to our 1st Annual Legs Against Lyme awareness walk on May 21st at Onondaga Lake Park: https://cnyly.me/walk

We asked Oprah if she was available for an iconic “you get a tick kit, you get a tick kit, everybody gets a tick kit!” Unfortunately, she was unavailable this time around. However, you will have the opportunity to walk alongside some of the leading local (and national) experts in disease advocacy and research. 💚

Register by May 7th to reserve your t-shirt and put your Legs Against Lyme with us!

Cancer Awareness - for cats, for dogs, for horses, for all creatures great and small! Be vigilant about checking those lumps and bumps! Any suspicious new growths should be evaluated by a veterinarian quickly.

May is Pet Cancer Awareness month series continued...

During your cat’s routine physical exam, you’re likely to observe the veterinarian carefully studying the animal’s face, gently stroking its nose, and fondling its ears. This is not merely a show of affection. Rather, the veterinarian is searching for tiny, scabby sores on the cat’s skin that could indicate the presence of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) — a skin cancer that, if caught in its early stage, will most likely be harmless and easily treated. If the skin eruptions go unnoticed, however, the cancer can progress, spread to other parts of the body, and ultimately prove fatal.

If you would like to learn more about this type of cancer, please follow the link to our website: https://hubs.la/H0NhRJd0
