YES YES YESSSSSSSS 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

If you can’t do it fast… SLOW DOWN.

This goes for all aspects of life.

Is your horse struggling to counter arc… slow it down, ask for two steps instead of ten. Build a solid foundation.

Can’t make the perfect turn? Place their feet slow, walking and trotting, be perfect slow.

Struggling to reach those big goals? Slow it down. Crush small goals. Take smaller steps but NEVER STOP MOVING.

1% better everyday is 100% better in 100 days.

I am a huge believer in less is more and smooth is fast 🐎💨
The less I have to do when running my horses the better. The more I can stay out of their way the faster and more efficient they can be during their run.
Sometimes “jockeying” isn’t about whipping and spurring it’s about sitting up there and letting your horse work. And I’ll be the first to tell you simply sitting there and doing “nothing” is one of the hardest skills you’ll ever try to master.
Take the time to go back and watch your videos and see where you are helping your horse and where you are actually just getting in their way.
In my experience, If you find yourself having to make a lot of moves and adjustments during your run to keep your horse on the right track that usually means you are missing a piece of the puzzle. Go back to the practice pen and see where the hole is, fix it, instead of just putting a band-aid on it during your run. Because chances are the faster you try to go, the bigger the hole is going to get, and before you know it there isn’t a band-aid in the world big enough to hold your horse together.

Love this… “work until you’re undeniable” 💪🏻

A big part of why I share so much is because I have failed more times than I can even count. I have been at rock bottom. I have wondered how I was going to pay my rent, fuel, food. I have had to sell every good horse I had to eat. To build. To survive. I made tough choices and sacrificed to be in this position today.

I saw a deal yesterday where Clinton Anderson said basically -having money in this sport is a handicap while you’re learning, because those who are hungry will do anything to learn.

I couldn’t agree more.

Although I hated learning the hard way at the time, I learned skills that are invaluable now. If I had to go back in time, I wouldn’t change one single thing. That struggle made me strong. It taught me to land on my feet. It made me appreciate what I have now.

Work until you’re undeniable. 💪🏻

Seems like a no brainer right?
But I see a lot of people struggle with riding their horse up the pen to the second barrel.
What does that mean?
When you leave the first barrel you pick your horse up and ride them up the arena away from the second barrel instead of in a straight line right to your point to start your turn.
When you pick your horse up across the pen you are killing their momentum and a lot of times asking them to shoulder in and anticipate the turn. Not to mention all the extra ground you are covering by riding so wide into your second barrel. It’s natural to want to ride up the pen, I struggle with this all the time. But if you can pick a spot when you leave the first barrel and run straight to that spot you will be surprised how much more efficient your second barrel turn is and how much time it will save you.

Thursday thoughts ✨

Are you approaching each day with an attitude of humility and gratitude? How many little girls (really people in general) never even get to pet a horse, much less ride, own, & haul all over to shows? We are SO fortunate, lucky, blessed - whatever you want to label it- to get the chance to do what we love on whatever scale we are capable of. Whether you’re a hobby rider enjoying the local jackpots or a pro out on the rodeo/futurity trail, what a life we live.

Don’t forget to pet your horse & enjoy the small moments that make this life worth living 🤍
