One of our favorite aspects of our parent-and-me events is the involvement of family! Whether its our own kids helping out, or our nieces and nephews spending their Saturday mornings at the barn ... family is what we're all about. This morning we had a record number of family members on hand (not pictured, Nevaeh).

Looking for Stall Cleaning help starting mid-August or sooner if interested. Will be looking for 2-3 hours of work Mon-Fri and also Saturdays. Doesn't need to be one person for each day. Will be losing a few of our current awesome helpers when school kicks back in. Pay per stall but between $25-$30 a day. Can also include riding privileges for experienced riders or lessons for beginners.

Been a number of years with the dry summers that the horse flies have been really bad. But they're back early and in full swarm right now. So while it's seen better days, spent time fixing up the trap. Last time we had it working it trapped over 100 a night. I'll keep you posted in how it does this time around.

Design is the the horse fly circles the animal and then lands on then. When circling this tap, they hit the clear plastic tarp and get trapped in the soapy water in the bin under the clear plastic and drown. But the time I went and pulled the hose, there were already 8 horse flies banging against the trap.

All quiet at the Stables after the Storm. A few trees were down along the road and we'll have to push some rock back up the hill where it washed but all in all everything's quiet at the Stables. Fortunately the boys were home from college so we made quick work of the down trees getting them cut up and moved out of the way.

To ALL the moms. The moms who come weekly to watch their kids ride or to ride themselves. The moms who spend hours waiting as their kids brush down horses. The moms who bring their kids to our events, always looking for new experiences to share with their families. The moms who have horses at the barn, and make us their happy place. And even the moms who don't have anything to do with horses ... if you are a mom, have a mom, or know a mom, you know where their hearts are and the world is a beautiful place as a result.

*** If you missed the Northern Lights last night, there's another chance tonight!

We didn't realize that you can't see much just by looking at the sky. You may see spots that are a little lighter, or have a slight haze of color.

To see the vivid colors that everyone has been posting, you need your phone camera. Either put your camera in Night Mode or Manual Mode (many iPhones go manual automatically when it's dark). Snap photos of the sky. That is where you'll see the lights!

They say the peak time would be between 9pm and 1 am. The Northern Lights ebb and flow so just keep trying!

Find a spot that doesn't have a lot of light pollution.
