THIS IS ME, CRYING AT MY OWN WEDDING. MY FATHER ASKED ME FOR A FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE BUT DIDN'T SHOW UP.
My parents divorced when I was seven and my dad's been in and out of my life ever since. Promises of trips to the park were made and broken, birthdays missed, and then he tried to make up for his absence with gifts.
But everything changed when I started planning my wedding. He suddenly started showing up all the time, even insisting on paying for part of the ceremony. He begged for a father-daughter dance, and against my better judgment, I agreed, hoping he’d finally keep his word.
On the wedding day, I was nervous but hopeful. He kept assuring me he'd be there for the dance. But as the moment approached, he was nowhere to be seen. I called him, but it went straight to voicemail. My heart just SUNK.
Then, a staff member handed me a small gift — expensive earrings, another pathetic attempt to buy my forgiveness. I was standing there alone on the dance floor, tears STREAMING down my face.
