We used some luring, shaping & lots of tiny achievable steps to get here.
We have also taught Judas a way to opt out and have choice during these sessions.

Today @goodboyjudas learned some cooperative care with his dremel (electric nail grinder) 💅
Here you can see he is on his grooming/husbandry station (the blanket).
When he engages with the dremel it is marked with a “yes” and given a treat.

This will help with the Canine Good Citizen Test Item 3: Appearance & Grooming.
It is important for dogs to welcome being groomed and examined.
This will allow someone, such as a veterinarian, groomer or friend of the dog parent, to do so.
Start with lightly examining the ears and gently picking up each front foot. It is not necessary for the dog to hold a specific position during the examination, and the handler may talk to the dog, praise them and give encouragement throughout.
REMEMBER: Always move at the dog’s pace and consider consulting in a professional 🐾✨

The best treats make for the best reward & novelty is HUGE!
Treat & toy rotation can help when your dog seems to become less enthusiastic about the same old thing. You can do this by using different treats within the same training session OR just rotating your pups toys or treats monthly or so (if you notice your pup is becoming bored sooner, switch it up on their schedule).

This is Cooper’s first time ever (he’s almost 9 yrs old 😵) having freezer dried beef liver!!

Cooper has developed some touch-sensitivity and has a negative association with his harness. Here I’m moving at Cooper’s pace with a goal of counter-conditioning his emotional response to his harness.
I’m doing this by associating him offering putting his head through the harness with something good, like getting a treat.
I use a marker word “yes” to mark the behavior before I give the treat.
When Cooper becomes nervous or less willing, I throw a treat for him to “find it” and reset.
This process has taken a few days to get to this point.
