Holiday Foods That Are Unsafe for Dogs

As the holidays approach, it’s essential to keep our furry friends safe from foods that can harm them. While we may indulge in festive treats, many common holiday foods are dangerous for dogs. Here’s a quick guide to foods to avoid sharing with your pup:
1. Chocolate – A common holiday treat, but toxic to dogs. It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and even severe complications like seizures.
2. Grapes and Raisins – Found in many holiday desserts, these can cause kidney failure in dogs.
3. Macadamia Nuts – These can cause weakness, vomiting, and tremors in dogs.
4. Xylitol – A sugar substitute often found in sugar-free gum and baked goods, it can lead to a rapid drop in blood sugar and liver failure.
5. Raw Dough – Yeast in raw dough can expand in a dog’s stomach, causing discomfort and more severe health issues.
6. Onions and Garlic – Common in savory dishes, they can damage red blood cells, leading to anemia.
7. Alcohol – Even small amounts can be dangerous, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and difficulty breathing.
8. Cherries – The pits, stems, and leaves contain cyanide, which is toxic to dogs.
9. Coffee – Caffeine is unsafe for dogs and can lead to hyperactivity, increased heart rate, and seizures.
10. Avocado – Contains persin, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
11. Cinnamon – While not highly toxic, large amounts can cause irritation, low blood sugar, and liver problems.
12. Lemon – Citrus fruits can upset your dog’s stomach and cause vomiting.

Keep these foods out of reach of your dog, and ensure guests are aware not to share these with your pets. If you suspect your dog has ingested any toxic food, contact your veterinarian or an emergency animal clinic immediately.

Dazzling " DOGO" is the quintessential GSD.......regal, affectionate and a superb athlete ! and did we say handsome ? This gorgeous 4 year old lost his home due to a death in the family......and we were happy to offer him a safe space while we helped him find a new family.

Class I recall issued by FDA products made by Carolina Pet products:

Recalled dog treats sold online and in stores in 19 U.S. states have been assigned the highest risk level by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

A "Class I" recall means "there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death," according to the FDA's website.

Carolina Prime Pet, Inc., based in North Carolina, recalled 400 bags of its Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips dog treats on November 22 because they suspected the treats might be contaminated with salmonella.
