We’re proud to shine a light on volunteer Matt Bronson, who recently traveled to Panama with Zoo staff to support the vital work of our conservation partners at EVACC Foundation! As an engineer, Matt’s specialized skills in construction were especially useful in making improvements to buildings that house critically endangered Panamanian golden frogs. ✨🐸

A little snow never bothered the prairie dogs! ❄️ These burrowers don’t hibernate during the chilly months, so it’s not uncommon to spot them above ground even in winter weather.

Who says animals can’t enjoy a snow day too? ❄️ Amur leopard Sofiya is full of energy as she leaps, pounces, and plays around in the chilly weather she loves the most.

Penguins are known for their monogamy and Mrs. Greedy, the Zoo's oldest African penguin, was no exception. For nearly 30 years, she shared her life with her devoted mate, Mr. Greedy.

Mr. Greedy, one of the most reproductively successful members of his endangered species in North America, passed away in September at the remarkable age of 33. Over their decades together, the pair contributed an incredible 230 descendants to conservation efforts—a legacy that will endure for generations.

After his passing, 33-year-old Mrs. Greedy appeared destined for solitude, as she was long past her reproductive years. But then Newton came along. At just 10 years old, he formed an unexpected and heartwarming bond with her. The pair quickly became inseparable, and Mrs. Greedy even relocated to Newton’s nesting spot—an unmistakable sign of their special connection.

Proof that love can find you at any age? We’d like to think so. 🐧❤️
