The Maryland SPCA adopts out more than 3,000 needy and unwanted pets each year. There is no time limit for an animal to stay in our care until they're adopted. Our staff and volunteers provide excellent care to the dogs and cats. Each pet receives medical care including neuter surgery, vaccinations, treatments, as well as TLC. Enrichment is also provided so that the animals have positive activitie

s to reduce stress. Our state-of-the art adoption center provides warmth and comfort while the pets await new homes. Our Spay and Neuter Clinic performs approximately 9,000 surgeries each year, making the Maryland SPCA the state leader in providing this crucial life-saving service. The Maryland SPCA also acts as a referral resource for residents throughout Maryland searching for neuter services. Surgeries are provided to animals in our adoption program, other shelters and rescue groups, low-income pet owners, and feral cats all with the aim to reduce pet overpopulation in our community. In addition to our adoption and spay/neuter services, we also transport pets in need from other area shelters. Each year, we bring in more than 1,300 animals from other shelters to help save more lives in the community. Other lifesaving programs include a foster program that cares for young and injured pets who need time to grow and heal in a home setting. Our Wellness Clinic provides care for over 5,000 pets in the community every year. Training classes are offered to help keep pets in homes and out of shelters. Volunteers and staff also visit area schools each year to teach kindness to animals to children. Thanks to the support of the community, we are able to provide these programs that help pets and people and save animals’ lives.

Join us for our open house December 21st at our campus to learn more about the program. We will be holding information sessions at 1PM and 3PM, where our Foster team will be answering questions and prepping pets to take home same day!

The Maryland SPCA provides all the food and supplies necessary to host an animal. Decide you want to adopt your new furry friend? If you foster from Christmas through New Years, 50% of adoption fees will be waived if you decide to make your foster home into a forever home ❤️

Paige is such a sweetheart! I am not sure why she has not been adopted yet. She is great on a leash, loves to snuggle, and aims to please. She is secure in terms of her attachment style... not anxious at all. She is a great car rider and even knows a few commands (sit, paw, stay). When we have company over, she greets everyone with a happy tone; doesn't jump or get overly excited! Her favorite thing to do is get under a blanket and cozy up next to you. She is the perfect dog!

🎨 Our Annual Kindness for Paws Art Show raises money for our pets while engaging children in community service. Students from around the state create 2D art of cats and dogs who’ve been adopted from our shelter. 🐕 🐈‍⬛

This year's show will be held May 10th-18th with the Art Sale on the 18th at White Marsh Mall.

Why has Kacey been the longest cat in our care? 🤔

It has now been over 300 days since Kacey arrived at the Maryland SPCA, so what gives?

He’s a low maintenance guy when it comes to toys. He doesn’t need anything fancy, his favorite thing to play with is a strand of yarn after all!

He may be 10 years old, but Kacey doesn’t know that! He’s still spry and eager to chase all his toys (and eat all the Churus).

Not in the mood to play? That’s fine! Kacey can keep himself occupied through window watching or basking in the sun. Need a Netflix buddy? A cooking companion? Kacey is your man. He’ll keep you company because as long as he’s with you, he’s happy.

Kacey has the makings of a perfect feline friend, yet he still remains at our shelter.

So we find ourselves asking... Why has Kacey been the longest cat in our care? 💔

“My name is Rosie, and I want to tell you about my little miracle, Shoofly Pie.

Not long ago, I was living on the streets, scared and alone. At just seven months old and still a baby myself, I became a mom to three tiny kittens. But life was cruel – only one of my babies survived. Shoofly Pie was born prematurely and was so small, he could fit in the palm of your hand.

I didn’t know if he’d make it and Shoofly Pie was scared, too. It was so dark and cold on the streets, and I longed for a blanket to keep him warm.

Then, the kind people at the MD SPCA stepped in. They cared for my Shoofly Pie, bottle-feeding him around the clock and watching over him with so much love. They gave him a chance to grow, to thrive, and to snuggle with me every night. I also had a chance to become stronger and healthier so I could care for little Shoofly Pie on my own.

It’s thanks to supporters like you that we’re safe and happy in a foster home today. Shoofly Pie is now a curious little explorer, climbing cat trees and cuddling close to me. I’ll never forget the kindness that saved us both – and I hope you know it’s your support that makes this possible.
