Baltimore Orchard Project We help Baltimoreans GROW new fruit trees, GLEAN neighborhood trees, and GIVE fruit to those in need. Join us—plant, harvest, give and feel great!

The Baltimore Orchard Project

We are a diverse group of people who have joined together to plant, grow, glean and share fruit throughout the neighborhoods of Baltimore. We bring together our knowledge, passion, and resources to pursue two main projects.
■We glean fruit from trees in our yards, streets and civic places, fruit that would otherwise go to waste, and we distribute it to those in nee

■We partner with individuals and organizations in our community to plant trees, orchards and food forests (fruit trees, berry bushes and grapevines) for the benefit of our neighbors, our towns, our children and ourselves, today and tomorrow. Fruit trees create enchanted groves where neighbors can meet, rest, and seek refuge from the rush of the day. They bring pleasant blossoms and aromas in the spring, shade and comfort in the summer and food and fun in the fall. Fruit trees offer all the benefits that other trees do, only more. They clean the air of pollutants and particles, absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, bring shade to our homes, sidewalks and streets, soak up storm water, create habitats for helpful wildlife, clean the soils, enhance real estate values, cool our parked cars and more. But unlike other trees, they also feed us. We want to work with you to create a time when there are orchards in every neighborhood, with fruit for the picking to all who walk by. Our board members had a great time planting native plants, bulbs, and seeds at our native planting event at the Druid Hill Orchard! We can’t wait to see how everything grows!

The Druid Hill Orchard is always open to anyone wanting to explore. Feel free to take a walk around and enjoy the native plants!

Seeing all the fruiting plants throughout the city and wishing you could add some of that to your own yard? If you’re a city resident, you can!

This Saturday the 22nd, the Baltimore Orchard Project is giving away one fruit tree or shrub to city residents from 7-12 at the

Worried you can’t have such delightful fruiting plants because you have just a balcony, small yard, or no yard? Worry no more! Some shrubs and trees can live a lovely life in a pot and still have a delicious harvest! This Saturday, stop by, celebrate Mulberry Madness, and grab yourself a fruiting plant!

Plants are while supplies last. We are dependent on our local suppliers and cannot confirm at this time what types and how many of each plant we will have.

One of the things we love about working with Atwater’s each year is, not only do they make a delicious jam out of Baltimore city mulberries and serviceberries, but they also harvest the fruits as well! On June 22nd, stop by our both ours and tents at the to get some of the jam!

As a reminder, there are still a few tickets left for our Mulberry Madness dinner at Gertrude’s. You won’t be able to get tickets at the door and we would love to see you there.

Serviceberries, Juneberries, Shadberries, oh my! While this native fruit true has many names, we can guarantee you’ll love its harvest. If you live in Baltimore City, be sure to look for these blossoming trees now so you’ll know where to pick the fresh fruit come end of May.

On Sunday February 25th, come out to the Druid Hill Orchard and learn to prune your fruit trees with the Baltimore Orchard Project, and Josh from . This free educational event will be from 1-3 and will teach folks how to prep their fruit trees for a productive harvest! Head to the link in our bio to sign up.

On December 2nd, from 11 AM to noon, come out and help our Rockrose City Farm planting partners put their 8 young fruit trees to bed for the winter. This will consist of light weeding and mulching around the tree bases. If you’re interested, sign up through the link in the bio!

This past Sunday’s fall fest in the Druid Hill Orchard was incredible! We had such fun making and drinking fresh apple cider, adding personal touches to the new mural, caring for fruit trees, and learning to sharpen our orchard tools.

A huge shoutout to and for their contributions! And to everyone who came out to celebrate and make Baltimore a little more fruitful.

Meet the artist! has been partnering with us since the spring of 2021 on projects to bring art to the Druid Hill Orchard. Not only will her mural will be introduced this Sunday, but there will be an opportunity for folks to add to it with premade stencils! From 11-1 on Sunday the 22nd, be sure to come out, meet Teresa, and contribute to the newest addition at the Druid Hill Orchard.

Yesterday evening we harvested apples at the Baltimore County Club alongside staff and members. In total, we took home 709 lbs of apples to share with the community in Baltimore City. Be on the look out for more information of who was able to use this harvest!

Save the date! Sunday, October 22nd we will be hosting an open house at the Druid Hill Orchard. Expect a chance to participate in street mural painting, apple cider press, meeting our MICA student artists, a potluck, and so much more! Rain date will be Saturday October 28th.

There will be fruit tree and shrub giveaways, a raffle for gift cards to our wonderful vendors, information on the vendors who partnered with us this year, tasty Mulberry treats, and so much more!

This year’s Mulberry Madness celebration has once again shown us how wonderful our partners are. Not only does make delicious jams out of the mulberries and serviceberries found around the city, but they also come out and help us harvest!

This Saturday, don’t forget to stop by the Atwater’s tent to pick up jam, and then be sure to swing by the BOP table to celebrate Mulberry Madness.

The Baltimore Orchard Project and @treebaltimore planted an orchard in Druid Hill Park in the early spring of 2020 just before the Pandemic. In the fall of 2020, BOP volunteers returned to the orchard to pull weeds and otherwise care for the fruit trees. They also celebrated the joy that comes from collaborating with others in nature. We at BOP look forward to seeing this orchard, and many others grow in 2021. Giving Tuesday

The Baltimore Orchard Project teamed up with families at the Baltimore Country Club to harvest apples on the club's properties. Many apples were shared with Sarah's Hope family shelter in West Baltimore and the Marion House, a home for women and children who need housing and supportive services. The Nexus-Woodbourne Center, which provides behavioral health and educational services to children and their families, teamed up with the Baltimore Orchard Project to plant a small orchard at the center. Through this partnership, the students and staff are learning to care for the trees and to enjoy the benefits that flow from caring for living things. Lakeland Elementary Middle School

Lakeland Elementary Middle School and the Baltimore Orchard Project (BOP) worked together to plant the school’s orchard in 2014. In fall of 2020, students in the Green Lions service club worked with BOP volunteers to plant new apple, persimmon, and serviceberry trees. They eagerly await spring to see what blooms! Moveable Orchards at the Baltimore Food Hub

We celebrated Arbor Day by welcoming our first Moveable Orchards to the world! Thanks to WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore for helping us promote the project, and of course thank you to American Communities Trust, the Baltimore Food Hub and The 6th Branch for being amazing partners and getting this project off the ground. We look forward to introducing Moveable Orchards at three more sites this fall!

Fall Nut Harvest with the Baltimore Orchard Project!

At the Civic Works' Baltimore Orchard Project we are preparing for the fall harvest. We would like to invite you to join us in harvesting nut trees!
