Meet Dudley, a certified love bug with expressive eyebrows, silly ears, and a heart full of snuggles. Whether he’s stealing your lap or your snacks, one thing’s for sure—this gentle boy is sure to steal your heart. Let’s hear what Dudley has to say!

🐶What would you say about yourself to someone new, Dudley?
I’m a laid-back, cuddly guy who lives for the little things—pets, cozy naps, slow walks, and being close to my people. I’ve got a calm vibe and a real gift for lounging. If there’s a lap nearby, there’s a good chance I’ll find a way to sneak half of me into it.

❤️You’ve been called a cuddle bug—what’s your favorite part about affection?
I’m all in on the cuddles—booty scratches, soft pets, even just leaning into someone while I nap. There’s nothing better than knowing someone’s right there, giving love and getting love right back.

⭐How about training—are you a quick learner?
I sure try to be! I’m food-motivated, which means if there’s a treat involved, you’ve definitely got my attention. I know how to “sit”, and I’m always ready to learn more if it means snacks and praise. I’m also housebroken, which makes life easier for everyone!

🐕What do you enjoy most about your walks?
Walks are one of the best parts of my day. I keep it calm and easy, always checking in to see if my person is enjoying it too. I like to take my time and enjoy the smells, the sights, and the company.

🏡You had an adoption event and a sleepover—how’d those go?
Both were great! At the event, I was on my best behavior—met lots of new people (toddlers to seniors!) and soaked up all the pets and belly rubs I could get. My sleepover was just as lovely. I rode calmly in the car, explored the house politely, and showed off how affectionate and well-mannered I can be.

🐾What about other doggies at home?
If I might have a dog sibling, I’d definitely like to meet them first—once I’m comfy, I can get pretty rowdy and bouncy during play!

Imagine this: an evening of laughter, charm, and unforgettable portraits from our Poorly Drawn Pets fundraiser—on display upstairs at Blue Pit BBQ! 🖼️🐾 These one-of-a-kind creations are available for name-your-own-donation, first come, first served. Come find your favorite masterpiece and take home a little piece of the magic!

This year, our Art Show lines up perfectly with Chow Down for BARCS—so when you join us, you’re not just supporting one fundraiser for shelter animals, but two! Double the fun, double the impact. 🐾🎨

***Please note, Poorly Drawn Pet Portraits has always been a digital fundraiser on Facebook with portraits only available via the photos shared in the post. Not all drawings from the Poorly Drawn Portraits fundraiser will be available at the Art Show. Many of our volunteer artists participated remotely so we do not have the physical copies. We cannot guarantee that anyone is able to buy the portrait of their own pet.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, BARCS has been able to provide medical care to hundreds of animals each year through the Franky Fund. A pivotal factor in achieving this has been our partnerships with local veterinary hospitals and clinics. BARCS is so grateful for these partnerships, as they play a significant role in saving the lives of thousands of homeless shelter animals in need of emergency and specialized medical attention.

This week, our heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful team at Liberty Animal Clinic. The care provided by the LAC team has touched the lives of countless BARCS animals, including Jimmy, who received urgent treatment, all made possible by the incredible generosity of our amazing Franky Fund partner.

Jimmy came to BARCS through no fault of his own, brought in by Baltimore City Animal Control. During his initial veterinary evaluation, he was friendly and affectionate, but it was clear he needed help—his body was covered in matting, and he had a large swelling along his left abdominal wall and inguinal area. X-rays were taken to investigate the swelling. While no fractures were found, a hernia was suspected. It was then decided that the best course of action for Jimmy was to transfer him to one of our compassionate Franky Fund partners for further evaluation and hernia repair surgery—to help him feel more comfortable in his body and to give him the healthier, happier life he deserves.

Once in the care of the LAC team, additional testing confirmed that hernia repair surgery was necessary—and thankfully, the procedure was a success. Jimmy was reported to be a sweet and cooperative patient throughout. Once he was stable, he returned to BARCS with a treatment plan and strict cage rest to support a smooth and healthy recovery.

Back at BARCS, Jimmy has continued his recovery and hasn’t stopped being his sweet, lovable self. We’re hopeful that this adorable kitty will soon write his own Happy Tail—and thanks to our “Love Lasts Forever” program, his adoption fees are always waived.

Phew! It’s been a rough, hot week at the shelter—over 120 animals have come in, and the heat has us limiting walks and finding creative ways to keep our pups cool and comfortable. Our A/C is working overtime, and so are we!

Enter The Charmery, local B’more ice cream shop, to the rescue—with mini ice creams for every single dog! 🍦🐾

We could still use your help: donations to our medical fund are urgently needed to care for heat-related intakes and other medical cases. Thank you for being there for our animals, rain or shine (or heatwave). ❤️

🐶 About Me: I’m sweet, snuggly, and love a good lap—yours, preferably. I’ve got an underbite that could win awards and a heart that’s all yours if you like treats, rope toys, and long couch hangs.

💖 Looking For: A human who’s all about one-on-one time. I’m a total lovebug who thrives with attention, structure, and someone who thinks daily kisses are a non-negotiable.

📝 Fun Fact: I’ve mastered the art of the dramatic sigh—especially when I’m waiting for belly rubs or my favorite toy. Bonus points if you narrate my inner thoughts while I nap. Extra love for long-lasting chews or a Kong stuffed with goodies.

Hey there❣️Did you know Wednesdays are extra special at our shelter? Adoption fees are waived for all the animals in our care—whether they're at the shelter, in foster homes, or at offsite locations. If you're looking for a new furry friend, this could be the perfect time to meet them!

❤️Frenchie, the sweet little pup in this post, is the kind of pup who makes falling in love feel effortless. Every year, our Poorly Drawn Pet Portraits fundraiser reminds us just how wonderful (and fun!) community can be. Thanks to YOU—our big-hearted, animal-loving supporters—we’re able to complete 1,000 adorably quirky portraits to raise lifesaving funds for Baltimore's animals in need.

Whether you submitted a photo, volunteered to draw, spread the word, made a donation, or helped a class join in (shoutout to Mr. Johnson!)—you made this magic happen, and we are so incredibly grateful.

Meet Mathias! Mathias is too busy winning hearts—one polite paw-step and perfectly timed cuddle at a time. This sweetheart is the total package: gentle, affectionate, and easygoing. He’s the kind of pup who’ll trot politely by your side one moment, then melt into your lap the next—a true gentleman, a cuddlebug, and all heart.

From leisurely walks to cozy cuddle sessions, Mathias brings his calm, curious nature and love of connection wherever he goes. Settle into a seat, and he’ll happily climb into your lap for full-body snuggles, soaking up every bit of affection. On leash, he’s just as lovely—easygoing and polite, content to sniff his way through the world beside you.

This sweet guy recently had a blast on a Dog’s Day Out to a volunteer’s home, where he settled in like a pro and let his playful side shine. He showed off his gentle treat-taking skills, enjoyed joyful rounds of fetch, flopped into the perfect sploot, and even practiced a few basic commands. Mathias made it clear: he’s as sweet as he is smart.

At BARCS, Mathias has met other dogs and can be selective with his pup friends—so he’d love to meet any potential doggie roommates first to make sure they’re a good match.
