Faith (Rottweiler) and Gus (boxer) are both reactive towards other dogs. They are both in our Daycamp training program. This is Faiths first time playing with another dog and it was great to see them loosen up and enjoy eachother.

08/13/2024

Marty Moose is here for Daycamp program. This is his second day. He is here to fix his pulling, and lunging to bite people/dogs.

He’s doing great 👍

08/12/2024

Emma does not enjoy other dogs. She is extremely reactive and normally lunges to defend her space from other dogs.

This is day two after ecollar conditions and she is wanting to walk away and have fun around dogs who are moving towards her.

May not look like a big deal to others, but this is HUGE for her to avoid them and focus on working for the outlet to chase things through the handler instead of managing other dogs movements.

Has anyone ever told you to ignore or turn your back to a dog for being pushy, to show them that a behavior is not going to have a fun response?

Well…. Here is a video of my dog attempting this move on Loki, a dog at our Daycamp program but realized that he is not understanding the social cue.

Unfortunately, Loki has been taught at home that pushing for attention is fun and gets him petted or rewarded with “love”, “attention” or a toy.

Loki believes that he is in charge of fun activities now and thinks it fun to harass space.

This means that he is confused with proper dog language and if this isn’t corrected at home, he will run into a dog who will panic into a much more aggressive response than Boha did. Then the other the other dog is labeled “aggressive” because they couldn’t tolerate Loki’s lack of understanding of manners.

Petting a dog when they ask for attention can lead to many behavior issues such as jumping, demand barking, reactivity, resource guarding, hu***ng, marking and more..

Once pushy energy is rewarded, the dog will be confused if someone attempts to ignore which tells the dog that normally gets rewarded to keep pushing harder for a response that they want.

Boha recognizes that Loki has no concept of personal space boundaries so she is not interested in playing with someone who might hurt her during play.

He finally play bows and attempts to say please but she is quick to say no once she saw they he was going to go back to jumping on her space if she said yes.

This is a teaching moment for him.

This is one of my personal dogs giving his pushy behavior the cold shoulder until Loki needed a more assertive approach.

This now requires a more assertive approach to fix pushy behavior.

Fun to watch dogs teaching dogs but keep in mind that I advocate for my dogs and they have ALOT of patience for rude behavior.

My dogs have been taught to walk away or avoid conflict until they have no other choice but to stand up for themselves.

This would be comparable to a stranger hovering your personal space asking if you want to go for a walk.

It’s creepy but because it’s a dog, people think it’s cute….

We are hoping to show Loki that is better to offer a hand shake, greet others from a respectable distance, and then move on if they are not interested in playing.

Please take the time to show them to respect your space and others personal space
so that other dogs/people don’t have to teach them manners.

He is lucky to be here with a pack of dogs who have patience for this behavior. Many dogs would not tolerate it and would handle it with a more defensive response.

Like most anxious dogs. Sasha is NOT food or play motivated until she is confident.

Sometimes one of the best things we can do for an anxious dog for socialization, is to require them to stay still until overcome what is stressing them out.

First day for Copper at Daycamp and he is doing so good learning that it’s rewarding to relax on a bed between activities.

He is here due to recently developing symptoms of aggression towards some dogs, as well as learning to play fetch with proper retrieval, walk politely on a leash and build his socialization confidence.

Isn’t he stunning!?

Every day, before I start with clients, my own pack needs to get their mental and physical needs met if they won’t be able to participate.
If that requires us to get up and get out at 6am, then that’s what we do!

Are you getting your dogs needs met before and after work so they can relax when unsupervised and alone?

Not only do we work with clients in Bandon and the surrounding area, but we also travel north to Sutherlin every weekend...

Ivy is here to become a bird dog at some point but first we have to get her to realize that car is a relaxing place to be.
She has major motion sickness and car anxiety. Pants, drools, paces, and even throws up multiple times.

This is our first time meeting and it took me a lot of time get her to understand that I wouldn’t rush past the step of relaxing before we can go anywhere.

Lots of patience because with this level of anxiety, she would not accept treats, play, and petting her would shut her down more due to her confidence level needing to grow.

Stay tuned as she learned that with us on Daycamp, the car will have a whole new meaning later. 💜

Sadie is such a happy go lucky girl!
My goodness she was excited to learn how to run next to the bike at daycamp!

Sadie is here because she needs recall, calm on command training, obedience and jumps on everyone to play. Lots of manners are the goal but it all starts with getting her to focus by setting boundaries in a firm hut fair manner.

07/25/2024

Since Muttley wants to pull hard and run, it was fun for me to introduce him to the bike. It’s a great tool to build focus and create more interest in whoever has the leash over his surroundings. He loved it!

07/24/2024

Rosie is here to work on a lot of anxiety behaviors. My daughter is showing that leadership is not about control. It’s about the ability to get your dogs attention fast and redirect them on what to do when they need guidance.

07/24/2024

Skye decided that place training should be the pool. Can’t argue with her because all I can say is she’s got a point.

Place training is about learning to go relax and take a break between activities and or simply to reboot. Safe to say, she understood the assignment!

07/23/2024

Rosie has began Daycamp with us!
She needs confidence building and has a lot of anxiety when away from her mom. She also anxiously pulls so introducing her to the bike was a great way to let it all out!

07/22/2024

Maple has began with Daycamp out in Sutherlin.

Here for:
•high levels of anxiety
•reactive to people and dogs
•pull hard on leash
•no recall
•no manners
•build confidence
•resource guarding

Stay tuned as we channel into her instincts !

Bandon locals! I have spots opening in 3 weeks. Comment DOG if you’d like a free phone consult. :)

Hank is here for Daycamp to build confidence, obedience, and develop manners for public training. Hopefully therapy dog In the works!

Since he loves to run, it was a pleasure to introduce him to the bike to build attention span when having fun.

Sometimes the best teachers are the dogs!

07/21/2024

Ivy and Teddy just started Daycamp and are both here to build confidence, manners, and obedience skills.

To start, we focus on place work and developing an understanding of impulse control in new locations.

This helps them to have a chance to process new smells and distractions easier.

Socialization is not about rushed exposure. It’s about slowing way down to make sure they feel safe and advocated for in all situations.

07/20/2024

Another beautiful day coaching for Daycamp out in Sutherlin!

07/20/2024

Faith is new to Daycamp.

Here for obedience, recall, and manners on personal space. She is eager to work so I am introducing her to the bike for a structured way to motivate her to follow directions when having fun. Her instincts are strong and at first, she wanted to bite the tires when they started to move 😝.

Note to self… this means she will need impulse control training around movements, tug, and chase to set boundaries on her prey drive.

P.s.

This is early morning. It’s not hot. the panting is from 5 mins of mentally learning how to focus and follow directions. It’s a lot of work when dogs are new to training lessons. 🤪

07/19/2024

Nala realizing that none of the other dogs are worried about their surroundings.
Notice the happy hop? 😜

I feel it is so important to remember that even if dogs are not wolves, their instincts are to still follow the direction of the pack.

07/19/2024

Muttley with name game since he is reactive and has no recall. All about baby steps around new places and distractions.

07/18/2024

Harper is new to Daycamp school and is unable to focus around other dogs and distractions. She is eager to have fun so I am introducing her to name game and the use of structured chase to create more relevancy around distractions.

Structured chase is both mentally and physically challenging for smart dogs like her to feel satisfied and motivated to listen.

What do you do to keep your dog enjoying you more than their surroundings?
