People are scary to some dogs. I do a lot of things to increase comfort for these pups. Mostly, I give the freedom to choose whether to interact or not.
I ignore them and give time to sniff and investigate me without pressure. I throw treats away from me instead of offering food from my hand. I ask their guardian to give treats, especially if my throwing treats is scary looking. If they let them touch me, but I do not touch them.

The cold weather freezing the uneven mud, ice forming, and recent cold front may be wrecking havoc on your pet's foot pads. Playing for a long time on ice/frozen tundra like terrain can lead to cracked foot pads.

Foot pads are very tough to heal. The patient keeps walking on them, they don't hold a stitch well, and it's hard to make our 4 legged friends wear a bo**ie as well. Try to avoid long walks if your pet is not use to it and do not allow unchecked play out on the ice.

If your pet is starting to have dry foot pads, over the counter treatments such as aquaphor or over the counter foot pad cream can be helpful.

If your pet has cracked foot pads in general ie without change in season or increased exercise ( we can see it on granite stone on hikes in the summer too!), make an appointment with your regular vet. Consistently cracking foot pads can be due to allergic skin disease, autoimmune disease or even due to too much weight on the foot pads! Changes in the diet, adding supplements such as omega fatty acids might help. This is typically a conversation best had with your regular vet.
