📢📢***Sappy post WARNING***📢📢
Those who know… knew I held back the start of Nuke’s coursing career.
Those who know… knew I didn’t prioritize it… even though I WANTED TO… I avoided it, because coursing (which I LOVE) has brought so much love, and also so much pain.
At introduction - Nuke started off strong! Getting his majors his first two weekends out, and taking the Mystic Isle trophy at our spring trial in 2022! And then, we went back to doing other things!
Fast forward, to our casual here-and-there return to coursing… as a more mature dog- Nuke no longer followed as well… because as most of you know… Nuke is a hunter. PERIOD. FULL STOP.
Nuke is a focused dog on the field - he has been jumped, bit, and body slammed (more than once on all fronts unfortunately). Nothing phases this dog. And it only makes me love him more - however, it is something that I know not to take for granted. He has been a steady QC dog for his own puppies, and countless friends at this point. HE JUST LOVES TO RUN!
So, we arrive to 2024… This year - our goal was the CD.
I had found LGRA late in 2023, and we continued that to keep him happy… as it was something he greatly enjoyed as a break from the obedience training and ring. Nuke coursed ONLY in absence of obedience or local racing *with much … stress from me* and, his coursing scores were deservedly… really hit or miss - some judges appreciated him, and some didn’t. *more stress from me, watching his scores* 🫣🫣🫣
We finished the CD 🎊
His new goal was to get his SGRC (straight racing title!)… we raced… every chance we could. Nuke is hella fast! Something I am continually in awe of!
We continued to throw in some coursing…. casually… at this point, needing singles… but with no expectation. And today… he finished his Field Championship 💚💚💚. Thank you to our judge Judy Lowther for finding him worthy of those final points.
This win, ALSO completed the requirements for him to earn his Versatility Certificate - which we will be applying for through RRCUS once the AKC confirms his Field Championship.
It feels like yesterday that I told his breeder I wanted a dog to do all of the things. And at that point - I didn’t even know what ALL OF THE THINGS WERE! Well, Nuke has shown me. My most sincere appreciation to Asta Palmer and Kevin Palmer- this dog continues to amaze me every day. He is by my side always, and is a constant source of joy in my life. On top of that, he is sweet, athletic, keen, tolerant, and has some amazing executive thought process. I could not be more in love with him. Our bond grows bigger with every moment we share.
Also- thank you to our tribe of supporters - you may be small, but, I can not tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of you 💚💚💚 to have him finish at our GVFRRC trial today, with so many friends present to share my joy for this new title (and a few tears)… it is hard to even describe - thank you ALL.
*Pending AKC and RRCUS confirmation… Nuke is now…

Special thanks to my dear friend Corey Burgess - not just for your constant encouragement, coursing dialog and general “dog talk”… but also for taking the time to capture this memory for me 💚💚💚
