Today we're celebrating all of our older friends! We've got several cats and dogs who are waiting ever-so-patiently for their final homes. Though they all qualify as senior, they all still have lots of time left, and lots of love to give. As always, everyone who lives in your home must meet with an animal before we can finalize an adoption, and if you rent, we must be able to verify with your landlord that you are permitted to adopt. Please visit us at https://www.bangorhumane.org/adoption/pet-listings/ for more information about each of these lovebugs and then come in and meet them!

Our friends at Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic know what they're talking about. Thank you for sharing these crucial tips for keeping your fur family safe over the holiday weekend.

⛺🚗Are you gearing up to drive out to camp today?
🎆🎉🍻Do you have fun holiday weekend plans?
Don't forget to do your due diligence to avoid having to visit us at our clinic.

-Make sure you have a plan for fireworks, travel, stress responses etc in your pets. If you have house guests/camp guests, fill them in on pet safety, it may not be common knowledge!
-We can't just refill prescription meds just because you have an empty bottle, call your vet now if you are running low.
-We do see pets who get loose due to fireworks or constant opening/shutting of doors during a party. Please make sure they are secure. Pets have jumped THROUGH glass doors and windows, don't assume that they know better.
-Remember that the stress response organ for dogs is the GI tract and upset stomach is common while in cats, its the urinary tract system and they can have trouble peeing! If you see any changes in your dog's GI tract ( vomiting/diarrhea) or your cat is visiting the litterbox more often, especially male cats, please seek medical attention!

It's time to create a logo for Paws on Parade 2026! There is no submission fee, and all votes are only $2, with all proceeds supporting the Bangor Humane Society. The winning logo, announced at this year's Paws on Parade on October 4, 2025, will be featured on all materials for 2026, and the artist will receive a prize basket, $100 in cash, and bragging rights!

The logo and theme of "All You Need Is Love", submitted by last year's winner, Lucien Knight, is now featured on our website, registration site, on all of our materials for sponsors, on our flyers, and will soon find its way to our event-t-shirts.

Visit here for all rules and to submit your art now!

Huge thanks to our friends at Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic for putting together this graphic to remind us all of some excellent health & safety tips as we move into the holiday weekend. Be safe out there!

🐕‍🦺Make sure your pet's tags or microchip are up to date! We at BHS are happy to help with microchipping your pet-please call us for an appointment!

🍗Keep people food up and out of reach of fur friends. Cooked bones are especially dangerous!

🏘Educate guests about the importance of keeping doors closed so pets don't escape.

🎆Keep pets inside or in securely fenced and gated areas during fireworks.

Meet Bubba (with the rainbow blankie) and Rikki. These two lovebugs have some specialized needs, but are still sweet little purr factories looking for their fur-ever homes.

Bubba is a newer addition to the adoption floor. A distinguished older gentleman, we recommend good judgment with kids, cats, and dogs. Bubba suffers from a seizure disorder and will require daily meds. He will need a vet relationship for adoption to continue his prescription and monitor his condition. We'd be glad to tell you more, so please stop in to visit-I mean look at that guy! Learn more about Bubba here: https://www.bangorhumane.org/adoption/pet-listings/view-animal/58642110/

Rikki is a lap cat and major cuddle bug looking for a home where she can be the only cat. She's very chatty and loves being in the company of people. She can go to a home with respectful children and may do well with cat-savvy dog. Rikki does need an owner who can commit to her medical needs as she suffers from an inflammatory bowel condition and needs medication twice daily to keep it under control. That said, during her time at the shelter and in foster care, she's become quite amenable to her daily pills. She requires a vet relationship for adoption to not only continue her medication, but to also monitor her condition. Visits with Rikki are at the shelter but by appointment only, as she is in foster care for her comfort. Learn more about Rikki here: https://www.bangorhumane.org/adoption/pet-listings/view-animal/57576572/

We are so very grateful to SR1 Equipment - Orono for spending SEVERAL days here at the shelter taking care of some of our most pressing needs. This was a BIG job, and they brough BIG help! They worked to clear our dog-walking path and improve the trail, fixed up some of our fencing, and did some lawn work. We can't say enough about how much easier this makes our daily tasks, and how much more enjoyable it is for our dogs, staff, and volunteers. THANK YOU!!!
