This month is Immunization Awareness Month... let's talk about DAPP! This vaccine is a top-tier vaccine that we highly recommend for ALL dogs, but especially puppies.

A DAPP vaccine for dogs is a combination vaccine that protects against several infectious diseases:

🔸Distemper: A viral disease that affects multiple organ systems.
🔸Adenovirus (Hepatitis): Specifically, it protects against canine adenovirus type 1 (CAV-1), which can cause hepatitis.
🔸Parvovirus: A highly contagious virus that causes severe gastrointestinal illness.
🔸Parainfluenza: A respiratory virus that can contribute to kennel cough.

This combination vaccine is commonly administered to puppies and dogs to provide protection against these serious illnesses.

🌞🐾 Understanding the “Dog Days of Summer” 🐾🌞

Ever wondered why we call the hottest part of summer the “Dog Days”? It’s more than just a fun phrase—there’s a bit of history behind it!

What Are the Dog Days of Summer? 🌡️
The term “Dog Days” refers to the period of the year when the heat seems almost unbearable, typically from early July to mid-August in the Northern Hemisphere. The name comes from the ancient Romans and Greeks who noticed that the star Sirius, also known as the “Dog Star,” rose and set with the sun during this time.

Why It Matters for Your Pet 🐶💦
During these sweltering days, keeping your furry friends cool and comfortable is essential. Here are a few tips to help your dog beat the heat:

🔥Hydrate: Always have fresh water available to keep them well-hydrated. 💧
🔥Shade & Cool Spots: Provide a shaded area or a cool spot for them to relax. 🏡
🔥Avoid Hot Pavement: Take walks in the early morning or late evening to avoid hot pavement burns. 🌅
🔥Grooming: Regular grooming helps with temperature regulation. 🐕✂️
🔥Stay cool, and let’s ensure our pets enjoy a safe and comfortable summer! If you have any questions or need advice on keeping your dog cool, feel free to reach out to us.

🐾Because it's National Cat Day and Immunization Awareness Month, it's the purrfect time to talk about Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) – a serious but preventable disease that can affect our beloved cats. We’re committed to keeping your feline companions healthy and happy!

What is FeLV? 🤔
FeLV is a viral infection that can weaken a cat’s immune system, making them more susceptible to other infections and certain cancers. It’s spread through close contact, such as grooming, sharing food, or during fights.

Why Testing is Crucial 🧪
Testing for FeLV is vital for several reasons:

🔸Early Detection: Catching FeLV early allows for better management and treatment options.
🔸Prevention: Knowing your cat’s status helps prevent the spread of the virus to other cats, especially if they’re in contact with other felines.

Why Vaccinate? 🐱💉
Vaccination is the best defense against FeLV. Here’s why:

🔸Effective Protection: The FeLV vaccine is a reliable way to protect your cat from this potentially life-threatening disease.
🔸Peace of Mind: Vaccinating your cat gives you confidence that you’re doing everything possible to keep them safe.

Regular testing and vaccination are key to safeguarding your cat’s health. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a FeLV test or vaccination appointment, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. Let’s work together to ensure your feline friend lives a long, happy, and healthy life! 🐾❤️

Vaccination is one of the most important things we can do for our pets to keep them healthy and living their best lives. Kittens and puppies can be vaccinated beginning at six weeks, and usually take 2-4 appointments to get all those boosters in. After that some vaccines are annual, and some are only needed every three years. Call us today to see what your pet needs!

As we begin Vaccination Awareness Month we want to remind all pet parents about the importance of the rabies vaccine. This simple shot is not just a routine part of your dog or cat’s healthcare—it’s a vital safeguard against a potentially fatal disease. 🐕💉

Here’s why the rabies vaccination is essential:

🐾 Protects Your Pet: Rabies is a serious and often fatal disease that can be transmitted to pets through the bite of an infected animal.
🐾 Keeps Your Family Safe: Rabies can be transmitted to humans, so ensuring your pet is vaccinated helps protect everyone in your household.
🐾 Community Health: Vaccinated pets help reduce the spread of rabies in the animal population, contributing to overall public health.

✨ Stay Proactive:
✔Check your pet’s vaccination status and schedule a visit with us if it’s time for a booster.
✔Keep your pet away from wildlife and stray animals to minimize risk.
✔Let’s work together to keep our pets and community safe. 🐾❤️

The rabies vaccines is required by law for dogs, required for dog licenses, and our clinics also require it for cats. For any questions or to schedule a vaccination appointment, give us a call or stop by!
