This week's SCHS Pets of the Week are Lucy2 and Chapel! To make an appointment to meet them, call us at 608-356-2520.
Sticking with our National Adopt a Senior Pet Month theme, meet our Dog of the Week, Lucy 2! At just under six years old, Lucy 2, a Lab mix, often goes overlooked due to her age. Surrendered because her owner couldn't take her along during a move, she's ready to find her fur-ever home. Lucy 2 is the quintessence of a happy, cuddly dog who thrives on affection and belly rubs. She's not only sweet but also well-trained—housebroken with a command of come, sit, stay, and shake.
Her initial excitement might give her a slight pull on the leash, but she quickly settles into a comfortable walk. Friendly with both dogs and cats, Lucy 2 is adaptable and would fit beautifully into a variety of family settings. If you're looking for a loyal companion to bring joy and companionship, Lucy 2 could be your perfect match. Lucy 2 is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations.
Introducing our Cat of the Week, Chapel! This two-year-old black and brown tabby is the epitome of a chill companion. Originally found wandering as a stray, she has quickly adapted to the comforts of indoor life. Chapel isn't just easy to handle; she actually enjoys being picked up and will happily settle into your lap for some affectionate cuddle time. She's the ideal buddy for those relaxed afternoons, content to simply hang out and share your space. When she's not lounging, Chapel keeps things interesting with a bit of exploration and playful bouts of wand toy chasing. If you're looking for a calm, affectionate feline to add warmth to your home, Chapel might just be the perfect match. She is up to date on her vaccinations and will be spayed prior to adoption.

This week's SCHS Pets of the Week are Superman and Nala! To make an appointment to meet them, call us at 608-356-2520.
Superman is a charming one-year-old buff and white tabby cat with a heart as big as his name suggests. He came into our care when his previous owner, overwhelmed with too many pets, had to make the tough decision to surrender him. As a young kitten full of sweetness and playful spirit, Superman truly doesn’t deserve to grow up in a shelter. He’s ready to find a loving home where he can thrive and show just how super he can be. Let’s make sure his next leap lands him in the warm embrace of a family who will cherish him. He is up to date on his vaccinations and will be neutered prior to adoption.
Say hello to Nala, our lively Australian Cattle Dog who's just over a year and a half old. She joined us because her previous owners felt they didn't have enough room for her to thrive. Nala's bursting with energy and absolutely adores people, often showing her affectionate side. She's quite the obedient pup, responding well to commands like 'sit,' 'shake,' 'come,' and 'down.' On walks, she's a star with her leash manners. While Nala gets along with other dogs, she would be happiest in a cat-free home. If you're looking for a fun-loving companion who's ready to snuggle up and be your new best friend, Nala might just be the one! She is up to date on her vaccinations and will be spayed prior to adoption.

Marbles is a charming one-year-old black and orange tortoiseshell with a calm and loving nature. She found her way to our shelter because her previous owner had too many pets. This gentle girl thrives on affection, leaning into your hand for some rubs and purring away contentedly. While she loves to curl up on a warm lap, Marbles also values her alone time, often venturing off for a bit of exploration. She's a breeze to pick up and carry around, making her a perfect companion for cozy evenings at home. When she’s not relaxing, you can find her playfully chasing after a wand toy or enjoying a treat. Marbles is not just a great cat, but a beautiful one too, and she’s eagerly waiting for a place to call home. She is up to date on her vaccinations and will be spayed prior to adoption.
Beau, a delightful mix of Border Collie and Siberian Husky, is just 3.5 months old and already winning hearts. His previous family had to give him up due to landlord issues, but he's quickly adjusted and is ready to find his fur-ever home. Despite his young age, Beau is impressively well-mannered; he already knows how to sit and shake hands. He's also a pro when it comes to leash walks, making him a perfect companion for adventures. Beau loves to engage in a game of fetch and can't get enough tennis balls. He's incredibly friendly with both cats and dogs, showing a calm and relaxed demeanor that makes him a great fit for families, singles, or seniors. This smart, sweet pup is truly a joy to be around. Beau is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.

****WILBUR NEEDS YOUR HELP!*****
Too often we take in cats with horrific wounds and most of the time we have no idea how it happened. So, when we received the call that there was an injured cat that needed our help we had no idea what we would find. When we picked up this sweet cat, we immediately knew he was in serious trouble. A neutered, adult male, he looked totally bewildered and lost. We whisked him back to the shelter and our hearts sank. He had gaping wounds near his rear end that were teeming with maggots. We didn’t think twice…we took him immediately to the emergency Vet in Middleton.
Given the state of the wounds, it was obvious the injury had not just happened. This poor guy suffered greatly, probably for at least a few days. The diagnosis was not encouraging. The skin had already started to necrotize leaving nothing to suture. That would mean the wounds would have to remain open. Given the location, this would make going to the bathroom problematic. But how could we turn our backs on this cat, who we named Wilbur? Through all of the poking and prodding of the exam, Wilbur purred and looked up at everyone as if to say “thank you!”
We checked our lost reports, thinking for sure someone must be looking for this loving, seemingly well cared for cat but no luck. We later learned that a new owner had thrown him outside, despite his always have been an indoor only cat, because she didn’t want him anymore. He now needed us more than ever.
The road to recovery has been rocky and extremely expensive. Wilbur needs daily, specialized wound treatment with frequent bandage changes. Given the location, the threat of infection is always looming so the need to keep his tail and urine away from the open wounds is critical. This means he must endure a urine catheter until he heals. So, he remains a patient at the emergency clinic. They gave us a financial status today and Wilbur’s care is becoming more than we can absorb with our already

Samantha is a wonderful black and white domestic shorthair cat who's about two years old. As a former stray, she’s become quite the outgoing and charming presence at our shelter. You can always find her at the front of her kennel, ready to greet anyone who walks by with a friendly meow. Samantha loves to cuddle and will happily curl up in your lap for some quality time. But don't be fooled, she also cherishes her independence. She enjoys exploring her surroundings at her own pace, showing off her adventurous spirit. This very sweet girl is looking for a home where she can share her love and curiosity. She is up to date on her vaccinations and will be spayed prior to adoption.
Tio, a tan male Shih Tzu mix, has joined our shelter family at the age of 13. He was surrendered alongside Mancha due to their owner's housing difficulties.
