Fox Hollow Kennel Training Providing boarding, training, and private lessons in central Virginia. Fox Hollow Kennel will offer boarding for dogs, cats and small animals.

We have plans in the near future to offer puppy (4 mo or older) day training board, basic pet obedience training (one-on-one), and various training classes. We also hope to add additional play areas for dogs that need more outside fun time and more individual attention. There are no added charges for medications administered or playtime, and bedding is included free of charge. Our prices will rema

A Cairn Terrier whose most famous role was Toto in the movie The Wizard of Oz (1939). She appeared in 15 different movies but was only credited in that one, though not as Terry but as Toto.

Imagine you're minding your own business and a stranger runs over to you and hugs you. "It's ok I'm friendly!" They exclaim.

It's not friendly. It's rude.

You'd probably push them off of you and tell them to scram.

It's the same with our dogs.

There is never any reason your dog "needs to say hi" to another dog they don't know. Especially on a leash.

Here are just a few reasons why:

Dogs don't say hi face to face.

Especially when on a leash, dogs can feel tense and they have no way to get away if they are uncomfortable with another dog in their face.

Most owners do not know dog body language well enough to pull this off and even us professionals NEVER EVER introduce dogs on a leash face to face.

Face-to-face on a leash is a great way to start a dog fight.

The VAST MAJORITY of dogs do not want a strange dog smelling their face. Would you want a hug from a stranger?

Remember to advocate for your dog and if you do want to "introduce" your dog to another dog, start with a side-by-side walk on neutral ground. Dogs can smell each other and other humans perfectly fine from 3 feet away. (Same reason you don't need to stick your hand in a dog's face to "smell you")
