Tomorrow!! 8:30-10:30 come down and see if we may have anything you need! We have a couple of clamshell crates, a dog few large dog elevated dog beds, a tiny elevated dog bed, desk, a water dispenser, a Mini Fridge, random dog items. Bring cash, and small bills please, we may not have a lot of change at the beginning! We look forward to seeing you!

If you encounter something your puppy seems fearful of, do not force your puppy through it. Stop the encounter immediately. In our classes for puppies we discuss different adaptations for your puppy in fearful situations.

You may see a couple of phrases that keep repeating in these puppy tip posts. Phrases like "early on" or phrases that imply being consistent, or going slow if you puppy seems hesitant, but do you know how you will handle those unexpected challenges should they arise with your puppy?

Touch is a big one for puppies. They need to be used to being handled in different ways for vet appointments, bathing, going to the groomer, having their nails trimmed. You may find your puppy is fine with most touch, but maybe they don't like their paws touched or maybe their mouth.

Getting over these sensitive touch areas is another topic we cover in our puppy classes!

One common mistake made with young puppies is doing too much, too soon, and too fast. It is easy to overwhelm a new puppy with tasks we may see as ordinary, like a walk around the block, or even just your yard. Spotting the cues of stress in a puppy are important to learn as some are easy to miss.

We address these stress cues and how to handle them in our puppy classes. Taking these initial steps with training is the best investment in your puppy's future, and will help you avoid unexpected challenges.

Using a Socialization Checklist is a very helpful tool and something we give our clients at one of our first puppy classes.

Your puppy should experience a variety of environments, people, sights, sounds, places, and even surfaces early on. Your job is to make sure they comfortable and the world is a fun place!

Socialization gives your puppy a slow, gentle and positive exposure to the world around them. Starting this process at young age helps your puppy become less likely to be fearful as an adult.

Got home late last night from a long day of day school and teaching classes. We had such awesome wins with all the dogs and humans!!! All my students make me proud!! Anyways I digress, I was eating my dinner when I see Stryker come proudly to the gate and brought me a bag of un opened treats he found! I told him to release and with the sad face as if to say, "dang it mom I found them fair and square" he gave them up. I told him he was a good boy, then decided since I was bored before bed I would toss them some see if they could catch it. Well here we are the bored dog trainer having fun with her dog over the gate. They truly make me laugh! Who else does fun things when they are bored with their dog! Love watching a team, especially when they show all their progress from the last session to the next! Nice job, Ellington and Liz! So proud of you both!

Love to see everyone out practicing! Lennox and her mom did a Home Depot trip working on keeping relaxed in new environments versus practicing her border collie crazy traits! So proud of them and the work they are doing! Yes, they can be crazy sport dogs, but we can also work to have good calm control too!

This is what it is all about! Miss Moo is a rescue girl! She first came to us due to reactivity towards other dogs. Her first visit she refused to come into the building. She was pinned to her moms side and growling every time I moved a little bit. So we met outside for our first few sessions. She slowly warmed up and was able to trust and come inside. Fast forward 7 months later, we are now having the zoomies with me without mom around in our day school program. Her recovery and response to other dogs is so much better. A work in progress, but it so much better and easier for mom to read her and set her up for the best success! This is what it's all about for us. Taking our time, building the relationship. Allowing the dog the opportunity to make their choices to be comfortable and become successful! The skies the limit Moo let's see where it takes us!

As I have been spending all week getting ready for the amazing workshop this weekend. On top of working with so many awesome human and dog teams. I was so glad I had the chance to pause and watch my kiddo participate in his first class with his puppy. It truly is not about the sits, or the perfect leash walking, or the best weave. It really is about teaching the younger generation how to work with their four legged friend. Showing compassion, understanding, and patience. While also creating a trusting, loving and fun team. That is what makes me the most proud!
