Angel update - thank you to everyone who has helped us this far. We have received donations to cover half her cost at this time. We greatly appreciate you all.

Here is Angel this morning. She is being lazy this morning. She had her staples removed on Monday and the vet says she looks great. She can now have more wheelchair time but we are taking it slower. I know she is getting older (which I don’t want to face) and there is an adjustment period after the surgery. She seems to like her wheelchair time in the morning but welcomes her afternoon nap time, which I do too, because her antics make for some noise as she looks out the window and barks or howls at the neighborhood, lol. All in all, we are moving forward.

Angel update -

The will this girl has is unlike anything we have ever seen. She has lived the only life she has known with her rear end paralyzed so although some may feel sad for her, we ask you not to. She loves her life, she is full of life and she has a whole team behind her 🩷

Incisions and surgical area looks great. Lots of bruising but to be expected. She is on pain meds to help with any discomfort.

We have so far raised a third of her hospital bill.

We are kindly asking for help to cover the cost of Angels rear leg amputation 🩷

Angel has been paralyzed in her back end since birth. She is now 9 years old. She is a rambunctious 9 year old and has no idea that she is not “normal”. Because she has no sensations in her back end, she wears diapers and uses a wheelchair and when not in her chair, she moves hips around. 3 weeks ago, she managed to injure her leg (try as I might to keep her area barrier free, she still hurt her rear left leg). It wouldn’t heal.

We went for a surgical consult yesterday at Stonecliff, hoping that maybe they had something magical that would avoid an amputation. Regretfully it was not possible. They had to amputate.

Normally an amputation on a dog that has 3 other working legs, pose little issues after the recovery period. With Angel, it poses a new set of challenges. This girl won’t be stopped, nor will we. Folks ask all the time, “what’s her quality of life?” Well Stonecliff found out first hand exactly what Angel was like. She woke up quickly from her surgery and was ready to go! It’s going to be a challenge to keep her quiet while she heals. I have ordered a special attachment for her wheelchair that is specific for amputees and have to figure out how to hold her diaper on…it’s going to be an adjustment but I am so happy that she will soon be back to herself

Happy National Dog Day Roxi - Let us see your dog 🥰

12 year old that was surrendered because her owner was moving out of state. He had her since she was 8 weeks old and needless to say, Roxie was devastated. She spent the first 48 hours howling, barking and crying, while she tried to call for him…it was horrible. BUT as I sat with her, every minute got better. When she would go out, she would keep turning around to see if I was still with her. After about two weeks, Roxie began to show me who she was….a true German shepherd, she trusted me, she was kind and she was adjusting to her new world. Central VT'ers, please share this post and help us help this family. Sadly, a little over a year ago a great woman's life was lost. These dogs meant the world to her. We are helping spread the world for this family to find these dogs amazing, loving , safe homes. As a sanctuary for the unwanted, misunderstood, and displaced, we are always faced with loss that is gut wrenching and devastating to us. The precious souls that are with us are considered family and loved beyond belief. When we lose one of our many aging souls, we have to step back and try to reflect on what they did have versus those that failed them in the past. Such is the case with Buster. He chose to leave us this Memorial Day. He was 13 in January. Although we do everything possible, you just can’t fight age.

Dear Buster,

When I reflect on all the years you had with us, I just cannot believe that you are now no longer with us. Even in those golden years , your beautiful face escaped the warning signs of an aging old man. Your kindness and “go with the flow” mannerisms were ever present and I guess that your passing was in the manner. We could tell that you were content, happy to have the love that surrounded you, Happy to know where your next meal was coming from and happy to have your Dad(Don) be there for you in the end. I remember how you and Ethan loved to hang out together and I am sure that you are again reunited. I hope you knew how loved you were. Dad is struggling right now with your passing, knowing that he will no longer see that beautiful face, touch that luscious coat of yours and to just be with you. I believe that you will remain by his side to guide him through the grief. Run free big boy, and for now, so long, not forever but until……..
