ANIMAL RESCUE, CARE, & ADOPTION
These are the primary and ongoing activities undertaken by the Organization. Animals, rescued from dangerous, threatening, and/or inhumane or neglectful conditions, receive initial veterinary care as well as specialized care, if necessary, to address any medical condition(s) present at the time of rescue. ALL ANIMALS ARE SPAYED/NEUTERED. Each animal is placed into a foster home appropriate for his/her specific needs, ultimately to be matched with and placed into a permanent home which is able to provide compassion, life-long attention and love, and a commitment to meet the needs of the animal for the remainder of his/her life. Intake – Animals are received into B.A.A.R.K.’s Adoption Program from high-kill animal shelters and animal control facilities, other rescue organizations needing assistance, owners who no longer want or are able to care for their animals, hoarding situations, puppy mills, and similar sources/situations. Veterinary Care – Upon receipt into the program, each animal receives a full veterinary examination, age-appropriate vaccinations, necessary bloodwork (i.e., heartworm testing), and any other medical care that may be needed. This may include minor procedures such as dental cleaning/extractions, or more significant surgery such as amputation or eye removal, for example. All veterinary care is provided by qualified personnel with whom B.A.A.R.K. has established a beneficial (and cost-effective) relationship. Foster Care – Each animal received into the Adoption Program is assigned to a foster home, suitable to meet his/her needs and able to commit to providing the care required, following all Foster Care Policies established by the Organization. Adoption – Each animal is placed into a permanent, compassionate and loving home based on criteria established by the Adoption Committee. In addition, if the animal requires a “special home” (i.e. “no other dogs,” or “no cats” or “no men”) these requirements must be met as well. does not discriminate as to the race, religion, or national origin of a potential adopter. However the Organization reserves the right to deny any adoption for cause. An adoption fee is charged for each animal however such fee is not expected to cover the Organization’s investment of care for each animal. MARKETING & PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES
The objective of Marketing & Promotional activities is to promote animals available for adoption as well as events and fundraisers planned by the Organization. Marketing & PR are ongoing commitments and include activities such as website development and maintenance, social media posting, communicating with supporters and donors via other e-communications, and posting of animals available for adoption to Petfinder, Adopt-A-Pet, and similar adoption websites

OFFSITE EVENTS
Such activities overlap with Adoption and Marketing & Promotional activities. Offsite Events include scheduled commitments at local pet supply stores, and similar venues as well as special adopt-a-thon events which most typically take place during summer months. All such activities are expected to take place within the Chicago area. The objectives of such events are to promote animals currently available for adoption, share with others the mission of the Organization, and educate the public to help encourage animal adoptions, the compassionate care and humane treatment of ALL animals, and respect for all life. FUNDRAISING
Fundraising is an essential undertaking, in order to achieve the primary objectives of B.A.A.R.K.. Fundraising includes but is not limited to direct mailing (2-3 times per year), online (website and email) donation requests, and fundraising events. Fundraising events may include an annual walkathon, silent auction, recycling initiatives, farmers markets and raising funds in partnership with area eateries (i.e., a percentage of the dining bill is donated to B.A.A.R.K.) and other businesses (i.e., Savers, Entertainment Publications, See’s Candy). In time, the Organization hopes to implement planned giving programs, to allow for receipt of bequests, life insurance proceeds, retirement plans and other property to be sold by the estate of a deceased donor.

On Friday, three of our little pups went on their first outing together...unfortunately, it was to the vet!

However their foster Jacki treated them to Puppuccinos on the way home!

Iggy is ready to move along to his forever home however his girlfriends are not quite there yet.

Iggy is a precious 5 year old boy. He is thought to be a Shih Tzu/Toy Poodle Mix, weighing about 9 lbs.
Clearly he loves Puppuccinos as well as attention and people....and everyone he meets, simply adores him.

Bella came from a neglect situation and was a hot mess upon her arrival. We were told she is 15 years old but 10-11 seems a bit more realistic. She appears to be a Silky Terrier. Unfortunately she has a couple of mammary masses that will be removed and biopsied at the time of her spay, and also has a perianal hernia requiring repair and of course, the dental! We believe this is her first vet appt ever, in her 10-11 years. More to come on this gorgeous, sweet, and loving girl.

And finally there's Opal, the queen of the castle! Yes she is a Chihuahua who joined us last year after having ended up in an area animal control, having been abandoned. She's a super senior but all things considered her only medical concern is slightly elevated kidney values, which are maintained via a kidney diet.

Many thanks to Jacki for stepping up to save these three little orphans who hopefully will find homes with people who understand that seniors deserve forever homes too!!

We are excited to welcome Boudreaux to the Chicago area. He joins us from San Antonio, pulled from animal control about a week ago.

He's adorable and very sweet! This little 8 year old Basset (or possibly Bassador!) is a 37 lb bundle of love!

Unfortunately he is heartworm positive but in otherwise good health. He's enjoying his new friends at his foster home and looking forward to eventually moving along to his forever home!

Many thanks to all of the drivers who worked together to bring Boudreaux up to Barrington and, to Many Paws Volunteer Transport for arranging transport...as well as to Susan I in San Antonio, for pulling him from animal control and keeping him safe for the last week!

What a difference a day makes! We met up with Dillion at his foster home today! What a handsome boy who sure has plenty of life to live. We look forward to watching him evolve into the best version of himself as he prepares to move along to his forever home.

Many thanks to Jennifer and Gary R for stepping up to save this sweet soul.

It is not very often that we are able to rescue a dog from CACC (shame on us!), but we really want to help at least a couple of CACC dogs as the population at the facility is far beyond what can be handled due to so many people simply dumping their dogs there. No doubt you have seen the photos/videos of the long lines of people waiting to drop their dogs there.

Dillion only has until tomorrow to be tagged for rescue. We want to help him and have a long term foster, however we need an immediate foster for 2-4 weeks to provide him a quite, calm place to recover from his upper respiratory infection.

Dillion is one of many dogs who arrives at CACC a healthy happy pup, gets sick, then gets euthanized.

The only way we can help Dillion is with a short term foster (2-4 weeks), with either no other dogs, or a situation allowing Dillion to be isolated from other dogs in the home.

If you can help, please message us here or email [email protected] for a foster application and agreement.

Timing is URGENT since Dillion has only until tomorrow to find rescue.

Meet Iggy! this little nugget joined us from McHenry County Animal Control on Friday. He's just 5 years old, 9 lbs., thought to be a Shih Tzu / Poodle Mix.

This little guy became "rescue only" when it was determined that he may have vision issues down the road. His left eye may have a cataract present. his right eye appears visual but not quite right.

Iggy does appear to get around just fine and is not bumping into thigs as if he were blind. We are working on scheduling a vet visit for him, to learn more about his vision issues and eye health.

Please welcome this little pup into our rescue.

Soon he will be looking for a new forever family of his own!!

Chubbers and his Husky friend are looking for new homes. Sadly their mom had spinal surgery and just cannot handle two younger, large dogs.

We told her that we would try to help with Chubbers, as we tend to have Great Pyrenees fans, but we do not have any experience or the ability to take on a Husky and suggested one of a couple of Husky Rescue groups in the area.

Chubbers is a gorgeous purebred Great Pyrenees, 3 years old, about 80 lbs. He’s good with other dogs, and loves people.

We are looking for a foster but preferably an adopter for Chubbers. Great Pyrenees experience is very important to ensure successful placement. A secure, above-ground fenced yard is also highly beneficial.

If you can help Chubbers and his current owner who is devastated by this situation, please message us here or email [email protected].

Please share our post far and wide, so we can help Chubbers and his current mom who is trying to do what is best for her dogs.

Note that BAARK is located in Barrington Illinois and we are looking for placement local to our area.

We are excited to welcome Boudreaux the Basset to BAARK Dog Rescue!! He joins us from the overcrowded animal control facility in San Antonio.

Our Rescue friend Susan in San Antonio is passionate about Bassets and was needing rescue help to get this precious senior sprung from the local pound. So we jumped in to help Boudreaux!

He's as sweet as can be, possibly about 8 years old, and 37 lbs.
He had come into animal control with multiple open wounds on his front legs. His left front leg and foot were swollen, possibly infected.

And yes...he is unfortunately heartworm positive.

He definitely has the cute Basset body but...without the long floppy ears. Plus, Bassets are not typically black!

Please join us in welcoming Boudreaux to BAARK Dog Rescue! We look forward to getting to know him!

Many thanks to Susan I in San Antonio for bringing Boudreaux to safety!!

Yesterday, our senior Black Lab, Lily, along with her foster mom Pam, visited PSP in Streamwood for the Live Like Roo Worldwide Ice Cream Social, . Lily had a great time and we hope Pam did too!

When Lily joined us in December, we expected…another Big Black Dog abandoned, now looking for a forever home of her own. Little did we know of Lily’s medical issues. Ultimately extensive testing recently revealed she has a large mass on her adrenal gland…the mass is about the size of the gland. Removal would be very difficult…if Lily even pulled through the surgery.

We do not know if the mass is malignant but oftentimes this kind of mass is. We are really crushed by this diagnosis. How could such a horrible fate befall such a sweet girl.

Our goal is to provide palliative care, and to give Lily her best life ever for the time she has left, ensuring she enjoys every day! So glad today she enjoyed the LLR Ice Cream Social. Hopefully many more activities are on Lily's calendar for the summer......and beyond.

It will probably take quite some time for Holly to find a forever home of her own....she's a Hound, a BIG dog, and a senior. ..............But Hounds, big dogs, and seniors are just as deserving of forever homes as are small fluffy puppies!

Holly has paid her dues and deserves a relaxing home and committed family of her own....to enjoy every day of her future.

Holly is a sweet easy-going Hound. She’s 8 – 10 years old, weighing about 65 lbs. Holly is the perfect combination of “couch potato,” watch dog, and companion.

Her favorite activities include lounging around on any one of her dog beds, going for walks with her human (although she needs a little practice to perfect this skill!), going for car rides, and hanging outside and barking at trees, to ensure no squirrels or racoons infiltrate her yard.

Holly is great with other calm, mild-mannered dogs. She is not fond of active annoying dogs who bother her, particularly when she is napping.

An ideal forever family for Holly is one that LOVES Hounds and has experience with the breed. A large securely fenced (above ground) yard, and possibly a canine companion would be ideal for Holly. However she would do ok as an only dog too.

Although a senior, Holly is in overall good health, up-to-date on vaccinations. Heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, microchipped and spayed.

Please share Holly's post far and wide, and help her find the forever home she deserves! Or, if YOU can offer her that home, please message us here, or email [email protected] for an adoption application and information.

"How can it be that I still have not found a forever home of my own? Doesn't anyone want to love me?"

Eddie asks us this question every day and we really do not know what to tell him. He's a handsome, active senior who loves life and enjoys every day....including causing a bit of trouble here and there!!

He’s a precious boy, estimated to be 10 years old, weighing about 20 lbs. But for Eddie, age is just a number!!

He’s an active, fast-moving, but cuddly guy. He is looking for a family who will play with him, play ball, and make sure his toy box is overflowing with toys of all kinds. Once he’s finished playing, he will want to cuddle under the covers with his person!

It does however, take a little time for Eddie to warm up to new people and trust them...understandable given his past losses.

Eddie absolutely needs another dog or even two, in his family. He’s more of a follower than a leader! He gets along with dogs of all sizes and loves to out-sprint everyone, racing around the secure, fenced yard of his foster home. Older kids (12++) may be ok but he’s too energetic for younger ones.

Eddie is housebroken; he does not need to be crated when left home alone. When his person is home, he absolutely loves to be nearby!!

Eddie is in overall good health, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and heartworm negative/on year-round heartworm prevention.

If you are interested in giving this precious boy a chance at a forever family if his own, please message us or email [email protected].

Please share Eddie's post far and wide and help us find Eddie's forever family!!

Bailey is a active 3-4 year old Beagle, weighing just about 20 lbs.

She’s a 13” Beagle, very petite, and very sassy! Bailey is a unique cocoa-brown and white color, The brown glistens in sunlight!

She is very confident but is not dominant with the other dogs in her foster home. She co-exists well with all, big and small.

Bailey enjoys playing with toys and running in her secure, fenced (above ground) yard, and relaxing on one of her dog beds, or with her foster mom. She insists on sleeping in bed, preferably on one of the pillows!

An ideal family for Bailey is one in which she can receive plenty of attention, toys, and cuddle time.

She would enjoy the company of another dog but would be just fine as an only dog, too. She would do fine with older children (10+ years) but would not enjoy the antics of little ones.

Breed experience is very important to ensure a successful forever home and family.

If you would like to add this precious pup to your family, please message us here, or email [email protected] for more information and an adoption application.

Please share Bailey's post far and wide and help BAARK find the forever home that she deserves.
