7/23/2023 garden harvest

Picked the first few ripe tomatoes today. Cucumbers are coming in, along with some zucchini, broccoli, and a head of cabbage.

7-18-2024 this is the second picking in our garden. Seems like I stopped the critter from getting into the garden.

Picked another couple of quarts of raspberries and a pint of blueberries. I believe I have kept the woodchuck out of the garden, but time will tell. Now it's the Japanese beetles causing damage... I'll be spraying in the morning to try to prevent further damage.

Woodchuck got into the garden when we were on vacation. Not much left for us. Good thing I have Amish friends.

DID YOU KNOW?
🐝 There are live enzymes in honey.
🐝 When in contact with a metal spoon, these enzymes die.
🐝 The best way to eat honey is with a wooden or plastic spoon.
🐝 Honey contains a substance that helps your brain work better.
🐝 Honey is one of the rare foods on Earth that alone can sustain human life.
🐝 One teaspoon of honey is enough to sustain human life for 24 hours.
🐝 Propolis, produced by bees, is one of the most powerful natural antibiotics.
🐝 Honey has no expiration date.
🐝 The bodies of great emperors were buried in golden coffins and covered with honey to prevent putrefaction.
🐝 The term "honeymoon" comes from the tradition of newlyweds consuming honey for fertility after the wedding.
🐝 A bee lives less than 40 days, visits at least 1,000 flowers, and produces less than a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
🐝 One of the first coins had a bee symbol on it.
Deep gratitude to the humble BEE! 🐝

How I started my day today , glad the firewood is done for a while, now I can keep up with the garden.

With the woodshed now at maximum capacity, my focus turns to maintaining the splitter and changing the hydraulic oil filter. I gave the chainsaw a much-needed cleaning and inspected the bar before lubricating the wheel and installing a fresh chain. Next winter's heat and hot water are already sorted out, which is a relief.

Woodshed is getting filled up for next winter. Should be done by the weekend. Then it's a rap till next year.

The garden is flourishing; I'm currently working on completing the new fence near the brim flower bed by setting the posts and attaching the rails.

Ready for next winter's fires, with just a bit more wood to add to the shed.

Hopefully it will be less stressful than last night system.

It's funny how a farmer spends countless hours getting the land ready, from plowing to planting. He spends $1000's of dollars on fuel, equipment, and repair bills. He spends many hours praying for rain or sunshine instead of sleeping. He sweats like no other job will make you. He works like most people wouldn't.
He gets yelled at and cussed out by people who get caught behind the tractor traveling down the road, and he spends many times of the day wondering if it's worth it! The deer, coyotes, hogs, c***s, gophers, grasshoppers are just a few pests to contend with!! He does all of this for what??? Ask yourself, "Why would he do that?"
The answers are all around you. The plate of food sitting in front of you, the clothes on your back, the shoes on your feet, and the last answer is the one that puzzles most people. It's the dust, love for agriculture, and the satisfaction of knowing he has done his part at the end of the day! I'd like to thank all the farmers out there who help make the world go round!
God bless our farmers!

It all in the ground, in God's hands and Mother nature. Peas are up, potatoes are coming up, looks like this will be the first year for the grapes to have fruit on them. Blueberries are all blossomed out, Raspberry are ready to flower, asparagus and rhubarb and producing well.
Love to work my hands in the earth.
Have a blessed day from our Homestead Farm!

05/14/2024

It been a damp overcast day with on in off rain showers. During the pause in the rain, I took advantage of the opportunity to plant a short row of leaf lettuce, green bell peppers, eggplant, and a row of green beans. In addition, I picked fresh asparagus from the garden to include in our evening meal.
That it for today from our Homestead Farm!!
