We feel so grateful to have been a part of the rescue effort for Dusty, a 1-year old silver lab service dog for a veteran living in Sandwich. Dusty broke loose on Monday with his service vest on and a leash that was tied to a rolling garbage container. He must have felt like that container was chasing him! We were unable to assist on Tuesday, so the owner's sister was referred to Kat (Dog Gone Pet Recovery) who had actually already seen the post and was conferring with us about it. We also suggested some awesome pet tracking/trapping volunteers (Rita Foster-Barnett and Elaine Howe Zager) Elaine took the lead in helping the family get the word out and by setting up cameras with Rita. Kat was her awesome self and drove the forever distance to do an initial search of the area with her drone without luck. SmithicAir was able to do a second search last night but with better location information from the eyewitness who revealed that Dusty turned north across a field instead of heading east like previously thought. Dusty was found quickly right where the information suggested he would be with the garbage container still attached. Welcome home, Dusty! A total team effort! Thank you to Rita and Elaine for the use of some of their videos and photos. Wait until the end of the video for some bonus footage of the garbage container and fence that Dusty was caught up on! (Ignore my breathing in the video.... I hold the controller close to my face and the microphone is very sensitive, or at least that is what I am telling myself!)
