Just a reminder!

Lets go over some snow safety tips before tonight.
1. DO NOT leave your pets outside for long periods of time. Everyone likes playing in the snow for a little while but don't leave them out there for too long.
2. Bring your pets inside. A few days of inconvenience for you, is not worth talking to the judge about. Put them in a crate, the bathroom, garage, etc. Any place where they are out of the wind and dry.
3. Clean the snow off their feet when they are done playing.
4. Provide fresh, clean, unfrozen water and plenty of food. They will burn the calories when they shiver trying to stay warm.
5. If you are that person that refuses to bring your pet inside, please see #2. If you still refuse, be sure to provide straw in their house. Hay and blankets freeze and your pet will freeze to them.
6. Keep in mind that if your pet freezes, you could win a one on one meeting with the judge to explain yourself.
Stay warm and have fun!!!!

Remember that post from before the storm that we were almost full? Well, here we are once again. We are now full. This is happening more and more. We are not taking in owner surrenders at this time and are only bringing in strays in emergency situations. If you find a dog, please call with your information and post on social media. We hope to have some kennels open up soon. We are posting some of our urgent dogs in the comments.

Numi has been with us since 7/24/24 with no break from the shelter until this weekend when she was someone's weekend Valentine's date. She did AMAZING! Here is what her foster mom says about her: The storm on Friday and thunder didn't bother her at all. She went to the bathroom before bed and then slept next to my bed all night.
She walks on a leash well, but does need training on redirection to keep moving. She is a good running buddy and can keep a good jogging pace. We went for a walk before it starting raining on Saturday, and the rain didn't bother her at all. I took her to Hollywood Feed and picked up some new treats and then we went to Tractor Supply and looked around. She encountered people and other dogs and was friendly and not aggressive at all. We didn't get close enough to the other dog to do introductions, but she didn't seem phased. The other dog barked at her, but she didn't have a reaction. She let strangers pet her and seemed to enjoy the outing. She didn't get sick in the car and laid down in the backseat.
Saturday afternoon she got a bath after playing in the rain and mud in the backyard. She didn't love it, but tolerated it and is very treat motivated. She would do well with a peanut butter pad in the shower/tub while getting a bath. She wouldn't do the blowdryer, but was fine being towel dried. She is good with getting her ears and feet touched. When we would come in for walks she allowed me to wipe her paws for a bit, but doesn't like excessive touching of her feet.
She has great manners and doesn't jump on furniture unless invited. She learned sit after coming in from outside after potty. She learned to come in, sit and wait for her treat. She didn't play with a lot of toys inside the house but loves playing and destroying tennis balls outside.
On our morning walk on Sunday was the first time I heard her bark. There was a neighbor in his garage and the noise must have startled her. She did get scared and her back fur raised and continued barking. We moved on, but it was difficult to redirect her and keep moving.
I had to leave the house and set up her crate with her bed and a toy and the same blanket she sleeps with in the bedroom. I left a camera on her, and she laid down after about 5 minutes and slept the entire time. Didn't tear up the bed, blanket, or toy. She wasn't overly excited when I came back, and didn't jump. We went for a walk and she did great.
Before going to bed, I took her out in the backyard, my neighbor was outside and she got scared and wouldn't stop barking. It took quite a while to calm her down and get her back inside.
I caved Sunday night and let her sleep on the bed with me, and she was perfect! She loved being wrapped in blankets, but when she's completely comfortable she will stretch out and take up all the room!
In summary, she is very playful, and as long as she gets along with other dogs, I believe she would benefit from another dog as a playmate. She cuddles like a champ and sleeps through the night. She didn't have any accidents in the house so I believe she is housebroken. She did great in the crate, and I think is crate trained. The only thing she chews is a tennis ball, and didn't have much interest in any other toys. She will only bark when she feels she needs to protect her person. She didn't bark any other times. She needs a little leash training but is fine walking on a leash with a harness. I didn't expose her to kids, but I believe she'd be good with kids with proper introductions.
Numi does play well with other dogs, just FYI! 901-385-6484

Ok folks, it looks like some pretty serious weather is heading our way. Collars and tags on your pets. Check your fences and gates. If you know your pet is afraid of storms, don’t leave them outside unattended. The shelter is already full. If we all do our part, we won’t have to intake a mass amount of dogs after the storms. Remember to post any found pets on social media to find an owner.

** SATURDAY ( FEBRUARY 15 ) LIVE WEATHER UPDATES **
A potent low pressure system, abundant moisture, and strong wind shear will combine to produce a multi-hazard severe weather risk on Saturday. Early Saturday morning (after midnight), showers and a few thunderstorms will arrive, continuing through much of the day. Flash flooding will be the initial threat. By mid-afternoon, as a warm front lifts north of I-40, scattered thunderstorms will be possible, some of which could be severe. Finally, a developing squall line will move through early Saturday evening, bringing a significant round of storms. Thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening will be capable of high wind, large hail, and potentially a few tornadoes. Up to 2-4" of rain is also possible in the metro.

Routine updates will be posted in the comments of this thread. Turn on notifications for this post, or comment inline below, to receive notifications from Facebook. Feel free to add your weather reports to this thread as well!

FYI! If your pet was microchipped through us, you are all good. We have never used this company. This is a good time to remind you that if your number or address has changed, be sure to update that information with the microchip company.

Don't spend your Valentine's Day weekend alone. Foster a dog! It gives the dog a much needed break and gives us more information on how they are in a home. That information and the break for the dog, increases their chance for adoption. Come by to meet our available bachelors and bachelorettes! 901-385-6484

Set up a time to meet Two Chains! (We did not give him this name but he does know it) 901-385-6484
Two Chains is a super sweet 1-year-old husky mix who has come a long way. From being scared of everybody who came up to him to seeking cuddles from us, we believe he’s ready to find his forever home!
Two Chains is a calm and skittish boy who has never caused problems when we’re stuck in long meetings. He LOVES our other dogs (one big, one small) and would do best in a home with another dog who can be his best friend! He has been loving the nice weather and always pesters our big dog to chase him around the yard. He is housebroken, crate trained, and has wonderful household manners. He loves toys and belly rubs too!
We have worked with him to get over his fear of men and he had begun cuddling with them on the bed! He still is hesitant to come inside sometimes, but we believe it’s partially because he wants to play more! He is simply a splendid dog who would be a fantastic addition to any home!

With MAS being closed for now, we want to share some helpful tips for found dogs in Memphis and Shelby County.
1. Post on Nextdoor, Lost and Found Pets of the Midsouth (on FB), and any other neighborhood pages you can. Most times, pets can be reunited with their owner by utilizing these sites.
2. Take them to get scanned for a microchip at any vet office and some fire stations.
3. Reach out to rescue groups. A lot of rescues will work with you if you are able to foster them. Please note that without fosters, rescues may not be able to help.
4. Do not take them out of their area unless you plan to put in the work to find their owner or a new home if the owner can't be located. Pets removed from their area are less likely to get home. If someone in downtown is missing their pet, they will not know to look in Bartlett, Germantown, or Collierville.
We know first hand how tough things are right now in the animal community. We wish we could do more. Like all shelters and rescues, we only have so much space. When you foster a dog from a shelter or rescue, you are saving at least two dogs. It takes a village and I know we have a great one.

We have some new pictures of Reese!
This sweet boy is looking for his fur-ever home! Reese is a 2-year-old, 40lb meatball with a big smile and an even bigger heart.
Reese has a goofy side that’ll have you laughing one minute and melting the next. If you’re looking for a dog who will make you smile daily and fill your life with love (and maybe a bit of mischief), Reese is your guy!
Reese loves going on walks, rolling in the grass, wrestling, and playing any and every game you can think of. He gets along well with other dogs, even our older, grumpy dog. Reese is very trainable and is picking up new tricks. We’ve taught him to Sit and are working on consistency with other commands such as Down, Stay, and Shake.
Reese is also super snuggly and is obsessed with getting petted and loved on. He’s the perfect buddy for a movie night. He’s very cuddly and won’t move from your side once he’s settled next to you on the couch or bed.
If you’re ready for unconditional love, a little chaos, and a whole lot of cuteness, Reese is waiting to become a new member of your family!
Call to set up an appointment to meet Reese! 901-385-6484

UPDATE: ADOPTED!!!!

Meet Limburger! He is a 2 year old neutered male. He is looking for a barn to patrol. He is a sweet boy that sometimes makes poor decisions. (Watch video in comments). He doesn’t mean it, he just can’t help himself. He prefers to be outside. He gets stressed inside. He sits in the window and watches what is going on outside and swishes his little tail. If you have a barn that needs to be patrolled, please call us at 901-385-6484!
