We had the pleasure of welcoming these adorable 8-week-old dachshund puppies to BVC for their first visit today. Sadie and Luke made a great first impression with their playful and sweet personalities. We are thrilled to be a part of their journey as they grow up happy and healthy.

Temps are dangerously high this week! Summer’s heat can be tough on our furry friends, so let’s keep them safe.
Prevent Heat Stroke with These Tips:
Check the Temp: If it’s 80°F or higher, it’s better to leave your dog at home and indoors, especially if they’re older, very young, have a thick coat, or a short nose (like pugs or bulldogs). Make sure patios are shaded and have water bowls.
Stay Hydrated: Ensure your dog has plenty of water before and after walks.
Take Breaks: Give your dog frequent breaks for water and shade. Limit outdoor activities, especially during the hottest parts of the day.
Walk on Grass: Walk your dog on grass instead of hot pavement to protect their paws.
Timing Matters: Schedule active playtime or walks for early morning or late evening when it’s cooler. Do not leave pet's outdoors during the hot hours of the day.
Cool Car Prep: Always let the car’s AC run for a few minutes before driving, and never leave your dog in the car.
If your dog is panting heavily, drooling a lot, or losing coordination, they might be experiencing heat stroke. Here’s what to do:
Get Them Inside: Move your dog to a cool, air-conditioned space right away.
Cool Them Down: Pour cool (not ice-cold) water over them.
Get to the Vet: Head to a veterinary clinic immediately, as heat stroke can be fatal and progress quickly.

Is your dog on heartworm prevention?
Living in Texas means our dogs are at an increased risk of heartworm disease. The American Heartworm Society recommends the following to minimize the risk of heartworm disease:
- Administer a heartworm preventatives regularly as prescribed by your veterinarian.
- Conduct annual heartworm testing for pets, even if they are on preventatives.
- Reduce the exposure of pets to mosquitoes by keeping them indoors during peak mosquito activity periods.
- Remove standing water around your home to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites.
Prevention is key! Let's keep our pets health and happy!
Meet Waffles! 🐾😺 This little bundle of wrinkles is an 8 week old Sphinx cat. A Sphynx cat is a hairless breed with a playful personality. The Sphynx cat is a medium-sized breed that's easily identifiable due to their hairless appearance. Their skin is wrinkly, soft, and warm to the touch. Their large ears and lemon-shaped eyes also contribute to the Sphynx cat's unique look.
