It is April already! This weekend, April 5 and 6 is the Kane County Flea Market - Saturday 12-5 and Sunday 7-4. We will have plenty of local honey, creamed honey, comb honey, beeswax candies, beeswax bars, soap, lotion, polishes, honey sticks, and many more home made items. We will be in our usual spot on the west wall of the South Trades building.

If you would rather shop indoors this weekend, our honey and other products are still available at Red Hive Market, Mighty Greens Farm, The Little Traveler, Java Plus on Waterford, Flyleaf Bakery Cafe, The Tea Tree in Batavia, Nuovo Tea, and Hoosier Mama Pie Company!!!

This weekend, March 22 and 23, is the Shower of Crafts craft show at the College of DuPage Physical Education Center! This is large craft show with nearly 200 vendors featuring home made items. Hours are Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 4 pm. We will have fresh local honey, creamed honey, honey sticks, beeswax candles, and more! See you this weekend!!!

Many know that we do sell real orange blossom honey. This honey can only be made from the nectar of the citrus trees during orange/citrus pollination season. Without orange/citrus trees this type of honey cannot be produced. What many people do not know is that citrus greening is decimating the orange groves. It is caused by Asian citrus psyllid which is not native to the USA.

Here is the latest update on citrus greening in the citrus groves in the United States. At the rate the citrus trees are being removed due to this disease there will be little to no citrus left in no time. It is important to know where your food comes from, how it is made and what the challenges in producing the food really are.

Most commercial beekeeping operations are able to handle parasitic mite loads very well with treatments. Recent discussions we have had with researchers is that honey bee viral loads are increasing despite parasitic mite management. With viruses living in comb well after infestations have been dealt with or colony death has happened there are even more challenges. This just makes beekeeping more costly and labor intensive for every size beekeeping operation. 😞
