Hey friends! Ok so my last post about Dash was maybe a little TOO transparent and maybe unclear, so I wanted to clear some things up.
I do not think Dash has a medical condition lol. I think he is a small boy, he was one of the smallest in the litter, and I think maybe his esophagus is a little more narrow than his brother's and sisters. I do not believe he has a medical condition, and I fully expect him to grow out of this as he gets bigger and his throat grows. I have discounted him from $800 to $600, and the ONLY reason for discounting him is because he may have to eat canned food (which is a little more expensive) OR softened kibble, which is a little more effort than throwing kibble into a bowl and leaving him to it, and also because if you hsve other dogs then you may have to keep him away from their kibble, which i understand can be a hassle. Those are rhe only reasons for discounting him, not because hes broken. π€£
I have been feeding Purina Puppy Chow this week, softening it in water while I shower and get ready for the day, and then I feed it to him by pouring out a little at a time on a plate, so that he has to slow down. It takes a total of maybe 1.5 minutes for him to eat a 1/8 cup of food and water. I am not mushing it, I'm not making a slurry or a liquid.
He has had no gagging, regurgitating, choking, aspirating, puking- nada- since I started giving him only softened food on Tuesday. The last time he had an episode was from be giving him around 1/8 of a cup of hard crunchy kibble without softening. And he puked it all up in whole pieces. I firmly believe his issue is eating too fast and not chewing and its getting clogged in his throat. I have had other past puppy parents get their dogs Maze Feeders for this same reason. And their dogs learned to slow down and they're fine.
He is a beautiful healthy boy, his colors and confirmation are beautiful (it's hard to find others with coloring as light as his), and he is gaining weight and is learning to
