Field Care for Waterfowl
If you shoot a bird worth mounting please follow the instructions below for a higher quality mount.

1. Do not ring the birds neck or use a finisher. This can remove or destroy feathers on your mount. A simple knee on the bird or squeeze with your hands for a couple minutes will suffice.

2. Lay your bird in a safe place out of the sun. Do not hang by the head on a game tote. Feet will be fine but the neck can be stretched.

3. Once home take the time to wipe down big spots of blood or mud. This can be removed later but makes things easier.

4. Wrap head and feet in a wet paper towel.

5. Lay head across the birds back toward the tail.

6. Place in the bottom corner of 2 Walmart bags or freezer zips lock removing as much air as possible.

7. Birds with long tails such as pintails can be curved in the bag but a sharp bend or break is not repairable.

8. Place in the freezer and get it to me sooner than later.

This is the hardest bird to mount. A mourning dove. It’s not perfect but it’s taught me so much more. Many people can mount ducks but this bird is a challenge to everyone
