Yeti came in and although he weighs 108lbs, we’re pretty sure most of that weight is in his head! Peyton posed next to him for scale. Peyton had her last shift with us this week as she is starting vet school in the fall! We wish her the best of luck & we will miss her!

Luci presented to the ER in severe distress. While being rushed to the treatment room she went into cardiac arrest. The emergency team immediately started CPR.

Due to the quick action and hard work of the emergency team, Luci was able to go home to her family after spending 2 days in the hospital recovering from her anaphylactic reaction.

For those of you that don’t know anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction. Anaphylaxis can be serious, resulting in shock, respiratory or cardiac failure, or even death. The reaction can be localized to a specific part of the body or generalized to the entire body, shutting down the major organs.

Anaphylaxis is unpredictable because almost any substance can be the culprit.

If you recognize your dog is having an allergic reaction you need to seek veterinary treatment immediately. The condition can be deadly, so it needs to be treated as an emergency. If treatment is given soon enough, most dogs will recover completely.

Today, one of our amazing technicians, Sarah, did a staff presentation on best practices to alleviate feline stress in our hospital! Sarah recently got her certification from the American Association of Feline Practitioners and taught our staff all the tips and tricks to keep our hospital feline friendly! From appointments to boarding to even hospitalization stays, Sarah introduced new protocols today that are sure to help our feline patients be more comfortable while they’re with us! Thanks for your help & guidance, Sarah! 🐈‍⬛ ❤️

Our leadership team had a blast in Austin, Texas this weekend at Thrive Pet Healthcare’s first ever leadership conference! Not only does our medical director (Dr. Lee) have some groovy moves, our Hospital Administrator (Barbi) won Hospital Leader of the Year for our region🏆! We love getting together with practices across the nation to learn and grow together to be able to continue to provide the best care for our patients!

Short & Sweet Bio: Dr. Crawford is from Zachary, LA. He graduated from LSU in 2006 before going on to graduate from Mississippi State CVM in 2010. He completed a rotating internship at LSU in 2011, and a surgery internship in 2012. He has a lovely wife named Lindsay, and two precious children!
Dr. Crawford enjoys golf, sports, and traveling.
When asked what is his favorite part about working at SSAH, he said: "Having the ability to do what I love, and grow every day as a veterinarian." 🥰

Dolly, who tends to struggle with anxiety, was seen by Dr. Gee for her annual exam, testing, and vaccines.
From the very start, Dolly was calm and relaxed as Dr. Gee spoke to her, gave hugs, kisses, and belly rubs!

Before she knew it, her appointment was over and she went home thinking she’d just left from a play date to love on some really fun people!

Did you know December is NATIONAL CAT LOVERS MONTH?! What better way to wrap up the end of the year? Today we will be going over some interesting facts about our furry companions.
- Cats can have a dominant paw, just like humans! Males tend to favor their left paw, while females favor their right.
- Cats have whiskers on more than just their face. They also have them on the back of their front legs! Whiskers are used to help cats respond to their surroundings better.
- Sleeping around 15 hours a day is very common for your furry friend. This means they spend about 70% of their lives catching z’s!
- There are 32 muscles in each cat’s ear that allows them to swivel around to catch all of the sounds surrounding them. Their ears can rotate up to 180 degrees!
While cats are very interesting, they are also lovely companions to have in your family.
