Homewood Civic Association is in need of new people on the board, on committees or just to attend our meetings. We are very active in keeping Homewood safe, clean and desireable to live in. Homewood is a GREAT neighborhood! We are so close to restaurants and the Medical District (Our Lady of the Lake, Oschner, Baton Rouge General and the Baton Rouge Clinic) and the Mall of Louisiana. The civic association deals with problems with our expertise and connections into East Baton Rouge Parish and the city of Baton Rouge Metro Council. Come join us! Make suggestions! Get involved! Thank you!

Homewood May 2019 Yard of the Month: 9545 Macedonia - Michelle & Loren Durant
Michelle celebrates her home winning Yard of the Month – after all, it was 5 o’clock somewhere. Michelle was born and raised in New Orleans. She met Loren at college in Ohio. Loren is a former policeman and now has a window cleaning business, Lighthouse Glass Cleaning. Michelle is a Master Gardner & Gourmet cook. In the backyard they raise a vegetable garden and have a few fruit trees. They moved to Baton Rouge 23 years ago to this location, and she home schooled her son, Christian. Michelle picks, cans or freezes the vegetables, cooks fruits or vegetables in season, sells her merchandise under the name Mimi’s Louisiana Kitchen. She makes a dyno mite Philadelphia Cream Pie big enough for a crowd.

I started feeding a very skinny opossum last summer who came to clean the cat food bowls on my patio. This year 2 racc***s have followed the opossums and found the food source. I have to make sure my 6.8 lb. toy poodle is shut in the house before dark every night, the c***s are way bigger than the dog. So far they haven't caused a problem and we are co-existing.

What is blooming in February? Camellias, and Red Buds. Presented here is my neighbor's on Madeira Dr., Lorena Guerin's house. I am so jealous of this beautiful bush, I have been trying for years to grow camellias and they just don't grow for me.

January is the month to start your resolutions. The most popular ones are: (1) “I’m going to eat healthier.”
(2) “I’m going to work out every day.” (3) “I’m going to lose 20 pounds".
By the end of January you ate healthier and gained weight. You exercised and got a new health club membership only to find muscle is heaver than fat and - you gained weight!
Then February comes in, you "forget about it" and go back to your usual life style - except you still have a new gym membership to pay for.
Just kidding folks - FYI if you decide to walk Homewood neighborhood for exercise the large circle is one mile. If you add all the cross streets it's 2 miles. Plus, you may stop and chat with neighbors along the way meeting new people who could become friends.
Happy body building everyone.
