What makes our clinic fear-free? Check the description for more information located on each slide: ⭐🐾

Diffusers:
1 - These little plug-ins are called "Thunderease Adaptils." They diffuse a natural pheromone emitted from a mother to her nursing puppies. They also come in collars and sprays! It is meant to help your dog associate that scent with motherly-contact. These diffusers are plugged in, in every exam room to help associate our clinic with those calming pheromones. We have seen this product make a difference in a couple of anxious dogs that have come into the clinic. Though, we have other tricks up our sleeves to also help ease those nervous dogs, keep reading!!

2- These plug-ins are similar to the "Thunderease Adaptils" but for cats! This specific product is called "Feliway Classic" that come in diffusers and sprays. Feliway diffuses pheromones that are called "happy messages" which are naturally emitted into the environment as a form of communication. These are the same pheromones that are released from your cats scent glands located on their chin/cheeks when rubbing their face on various objects!

3- Lavender oil diffusers located in the lobby so pets (and humans) are immediately hit with calming scents when walking into the clinic.

4- Similar lavender oil diffusers are located in every exam room as well!

Sound Buffers:
Apart of the fear-free experience is to provide sound buffers to limit stressful situations. When arriving in the clinic, your pet immediately knows where they are and have probably associated the vet with a negative experience. We are here to reverse that association to a positive one. These sound machines help provide a barrier to other loud noises that may be happening in the clinic. We want your pet to know that they are our priority when it comes to their anxiety and health.

Treats (positive reinforcement):
To help your pets associate the vet with a positive experience, we provide many different positive reinforcements. By providing these, it helps create a better experience for you and your babies. We always go slow and give plenty of words of encouragement partnered with these delicious treats.

1- We provide many different kinds of treats for your dog from savory to sweet.
2- Your kitty has 2 different options from squeezable delectables to tasty temptations.
3- We have many different lick mats that your dog/cat can lick their preferred treat from. These mats are made to encourage mental simulation. Licking also releases endorphins (the happy hormone) that help create a calming effect.

Due to road closures and staff safety, we will be closed tomorrow Wednesday January 22nd. Weather permitting, we plan on reopening Thursday morning at 7:00am. Paxton approves of our Fear Free techniques. He received lots of positive praise, high value treats, and a nice massage during his spa day. Paxton had a rough beginning to his life but he was adopted by the sweetest family. We would like to wish him a very Happy Birthday as he just made one year in his forever home❤️

South Baton Rouge Animal Hospital is a new full-service veterinary clinic serving pets and their families in Baton Rouge. But we are not new, only this location. Our experienced team has been in the area caring for animals for decades, and we are excited to bring this high level of care and service to South Baton Rouge. As family members, dogs and cats deserve the very best veterinary medicine has to offer.

With exceptional and compassionate care as our driving force, we utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic tools for rapid and accurate diagnoses. We go beyond the traditional primary care practice, however. Because of our relationship with Sherwood South Animal Hospital, an established primary care and 24/7 ER hospital, and Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists, we can handle anything your pet requires. If needed, we can safely transport patients to Sherwood South for emergency and critical care and overnight hospitalization. Patients who need more advanced care can stay within our family through referral to Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists.

We love our community and are grateful to be able to serve our neighbors. We can’t wait to meet you and your furry family members when we open in mid-September 2018.
