We are partnering with Two Men and a Truck for October with their Movers for Mutts campaign. We have a donation box in our lobby and pictured is the wish list for Kalamazoo Humane Society. They reached out to us and we are happy to help! We’d love to see a full box when they pick up on October 30! 🩷🐾

Please keep a very special client in your thoughts and prayers..they lost both of their beloved dogs last night due to smoke inhalation from a house fire. This has been a number one fear of mine since I was a child and I wish I had any comfort for them at all. I know the pain of tragic and sudden loss of two and I wish they weren’t experiencing it. We love you and feel deeply, the loss of these babes.

Some people are under the impression that a**l glands always need to be expressed, but groomers typically are not qualified to do them properly.
We HIGHLY recommend consulting your vet with questions or to have them done.

Talk to us, we will tell ya!!

As the temperature rises owners of fur bearing breeds begin to realize their pets are hot. Mistakenly, many think that clipping these breeds down will help them be cooler. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
This time of year it's common to see these breeds 'blowing coat', meaning that massive amounts of undercoat are shed out at once. However, clipping is not the answer. Instead your professional groomer can remove that crazy amount of undercoat and help keep it in check year round.
This allows the coat to properly perform it's job of keeping the body cooler. The attached undercoat works like insulation keeping cooler air near the body while the guard coat reflects heat away. But when loose undercoat is not properly removed it impedes the coat from doing it's task.
Professional groomers provide so much more than a haircut. Talk to your groomer about booking an appointment for your fur bearing breed to keep them comfortable year round!

Hi all!
As you know, the storms last week caused some pretty severe damage in Portage. Even though our business is in Battle Creek, there was some pretty significant damage close to home, as the tornado passed by roughly a mile from my home! My property and critters were unscathed, but the community nearby was devastated. I’m asking for small donations in the way of cat food and dog food, to be dispersed to some of the rescues that are helping to locate and reunite lost pets. Please drop off your donations to the shop (1555 West Columbia) at any time 9-5 Monday through Friday through the end of the month. Thank you!!!!
(Note:we will be closed on Memorial Day)

Ever wonder what the Amish puppy mills do when gullible people don’t buy their crappy dogs? They let them die. Usually not humanely. Here’s the thing, a lot of rescues end up paying for these dogs because these good for nothing people want to purchase more after they’ve been over bred so that they can continue this vicious cycle. “Adopt don’t shop” doesn’t mean that you aren’t contributing to the problem. Buy only from REPUTABLE breeders. Just because they are registered with a kennel club, or breed club, doesn’t mean they are good dogs. Do research, don’t impulse buy, and if there is no return clause, don’t do business with them. Any GOOD breeder will be willing to take back their dogs at any point in their lives because they care about the well being of the dog, not just the $$ they get from them. This would be a key indicator of who you do business with or not.
By all means, adopt, I did. But ask questions. Always ask questions! And please advocate for the animal community, we are their only voice.

If “Ride or Die” was a dog, it would be Poppy. As long as she is with me, she is game for any adventure including hay rides and kayaking.

Even the most well trained dogs are still dogs, and can do dumb things. Thankfully, I was aware that these phone numbers existed and was able to follow the proper instructions and get Brinley to the vet after she ingested some rodent bait. Though not in the complete clear, she is more likely to not have lethal side effects, and is blissfully unaware of the danger she put herself in. Even as a seasoned pet owner, emergencies still make you feel panic, but I’m grateful that my brain didn’t seize and I was able to make the right calls to get her the right treatment. It’s 3:30 Sunday morning and I’m ready for bed!
