Lots of happy dogs enjoying day care today! đ¶đ€
Millie just graduated from our Puppy Preschool training.
She spent the entire day yesterday at a tennis tournament and had all kinds of new experiences.
The most important thing Millie did yesterday is she spent a lot of time âjust beingâ with us. It can be hard for a puppy to not be the center of attention, but yesterday she learned that it is possible and we think she actually enjoyed her day and had a lot of fun.
Millie was relaxing with Jay in this picture.
Here are some fun day care pictures from yesterday to put a smile on your face. đ¶đ€
Enzo is completing Puppy Preschool with us this week.
Lori and Enzo went for a walk this morning and then they spent some time sitting at the front door just âbeingâ. Enzo was learning how to observe what was going on around him without reacting to it. He watched cars, bikes, runners and walkers with dogs go by. He learned there was no need, nor reason, to bark at whatever was going by.
We spend a lot of time working with the training dogs teaching them how to relax and âjust beâ with us. We believe it is a powerful tool that will serve our clients well with their dogs.
Enzo is one of our Puppy Preschool students this week.
Enzo is a good student and is learning all kinds of things that will benefit both him and his owner.
Breesy is in the background and she is a quick study. Breesy wants to believe that if she does everything that Enzo is being asked to do by his trainer that she will get treats too. đ
Our Puppy Preschool program is a great introduction to training and helps get puppies and their owners off to a good start.
Sniper comes to on Mondays and it is his favorite day of the week.
Sniperâs grandpa drops him off and he speaks Spanish. Sarah also speaks some Spanish, so she always enjoys her brief conversations with him in the parking lot.
Almost every Monday, Sniperâs grandpa says, âEste es loco y no puede esperar a llegar aqui a jugar con sus amigos!âđ€đ¶

Milo and Zeus take the game of tug very seriously. This kind of play goes on for hours on our day care floors
The dogs have an absolute blast with each other, play all day long and go home at the end of the day happy and tired.
Phoebe was taking a break after running around and playing with her friends.đ¶đ€
The âThree Amigosâ were sunning themselves this morningâBreesy, Finley and Indi.
Itâs almost as if the dogs sense whatâs coming and are trying to soak up the last rays of summerâsmart dogs.
Leia was practicing her âsettleâ while Ronda, Kelly and Lori made their lunches.
One of the most important things we work on with the dogs we train at Dog Zone is teaching them how to âjust beâ.
We believe it is a lot easier to live with dogs who are a part of our lives, but not the center of our lives. It can be absolutely exhausting to live with a dog that demands to be the center of attention all of the time.
Training a dog, so that it learns how to âjust beâ is a beautiful thing.
Dutton and Stella take their games of tug very seriously.
Breesy says, âTake it easy on Labor Dayâ.
Dog Zone is closed on Monday, 9/2.
See you all on Tuesday!
Loriâs dog, Boulder, loves to swim and has been enjoying these last days of summer.

Zeus, Copper and Chesney all with their favorite chew toys.
The little dogs always have a lot of interest when something is happening with the school buses.
The exceptions in this picture would be Vinnie, Arnie and LeeRoy who are all more interested in Kelly, who is taking the picture.
Monday mornings are always fun at day care, as the dogs are all excited to see their friends again after the weekend.
By the end of the morning, everyone is ready to have their quiet time, so they are recharged for their afternoon of play.
Lola, Winston, Hazel, Natty and Brody have all burned 1,000 calories this morning and are ready for their siestas.

Bazooka and Mollie were taking a break, but Mollie wanted to keep an eye on Bazooka to make sure he wasnât going to get up and start playing again without her.
Mollie and Ollie have become fast friends and have been playing all morning!
They will be very tired puppies at the end of the day when their owners pick them up from day care. đ¶đŽđ€
Chesney and Clementine chilling.
One of these dogs is not a shadow and his name is Milo Nickels. Can you find him?
We need your help to increase our presence on the internet. If each of you would ask a friend to follow us, we could double our audience. đ¶đ€â€ïž
Most of us who work at Dog Zone have owned challenging dogs. We are grateful to those dogs, as they have been our greatest teachers. We have learned things from them that have taught us what we need to know to be successful in lots of different situations with a variety of challenging dogs.
This picture is of Kellyâs dog, Wiley. He is the most challenging dog Kelly has ever trained and made her learning curve incredibly steep. Wiley is a great dog and Kellyâs family absolutely adores him, but in spite of the thousands of training hours Kelly has poured into him over 15 yearsâWiley is a dog who has to be managed by Kelly every day to insure he makes good decisions.
Kellyâs experience with Wiley has motivated her to want to be the best trainer she can be in an effort to help Dog Zoneâs clients with proper training for their dogs. Proper training can help our clients avoid behavioral problems with their dogs and in turn, make it a lot easier and more fun to live with their dogs.
We post these words and this picture in an effort to let our clients know that when we have difficult conversations with them about their dogs it is 100% because we care about our clients and their dogs. We want whatâs best for them and we are always going to recommend training if we think it would be beneficial. We will never recommend unnecessary trainingâthat is just not something we would ever do.
All of us at Dog Zone follow a trainer who lives in Idaho. Her name is Stephanie Vichinsky and her business is Method K9. She is a trainer who works with very challenging dogs and we find her to be a well spoken and knowledgeable dog trainer.
We end this post with a quote from Stephanie:
âLoving your dog isnât all about hugs and kisses and cuddles. Sometimes itâs about having tough conversations with your dogs.
Sometimes you have to have challenging conversations with them about not attacking the neighbors cat, or challenging conversations with them about not bolting out the front door, or challenging conversations with them about resource guarding, or something like that, because these are all potential safety issues.
These are all things that are going to destroy their quality of life overtime.
You can always give your dog love and kisses and cuddles, but itâs really important to also show them that you love them by training them and having challenging conversations even when those conversations are difficult for youâ.
We had a busy training week and our clientsâ dogs learned a lot of self-control and obedience.
We love giving our clientsâ their lessons and showing them what their dogs have learned and what they need to do to provide leadership for their dogs.
We also make sure our clients understand that we are here to support them through the training process at home. We are always just a message, or a phone call, away when they have a question.
The training dogs last week starting at 1 oâclock and going clockwise wereâChandler, Natty, Ernie, Lucy, Gracie and Magnum.
If you are struggling with your dog at home and think our training programs might be beneficial to you, please reach out to us. We are here to help!
It was recently brought to our attention by a former client that we were not âexcited and happyâ to see their dog when it was being dropped off to day care in the morning.
We were grateful they brought their concern to our attention, as it gives us the opportunity to explain why we may seem subdued when coming out of the building to take an overly exuberant and energetic dog into day care.
Dogs get excited when they come to Dog Zone to day care, as it is their happy place to play with all of their friends. When an overly excited dog is being dropped off, we greet that dog very calmlyâwhich means we do not talk to the dog, pet the dog, nor make eye contact with the dog. The dog may be doing everything in its power to keep it together and it does not need us feeding into their excited energy.
Our job is to help the dogs and we would not be helping that dog in that moment, if we fed into their excited energy.
We post these words here in an effort to help people understand that we are incredibly purposeful in our interactions with the dogs we are paid to care for on a daily basis.
We always welcome questions, as it is one of our goals to educate our clients about how best to set themselves up for success with their dogs.
We post this picture of Buck, as he is a dog who needed us to help him control his happy, puppy energy with our calm leadership.
Ernie and Lucy are the two puppies we have in training right now and they have become fast friends.
We have observed this phenomena over the last several years. The dogs who train at the same time often form friendships and remember each other even years later. Those reunions always make us smile.
Itâs the dog days of summer and Zelda, Charlie, Reggie, Daphne and Winnie are soaking up all the rays. đ¶âïž

Tilly, Piper and Kiara played a very animated game of tug of war today. We love to send the dogs home happy and tired after a long day of play at day care. đ¶đŽđ€
Eight training dogs practicing their âplacesâ: Harper, Rosie, Fin, Leia, Obi, Izzy, Levi and Kiara. They are all doing a great job!
We wanted to share this zen moment with all of you. This is 55 seconds worth of 5 training dogs staying quietly on their âplacesâ. Buehrle, Nova, Sven, Brody and Titus are all doing a great job in their training. We think their owners will appreciate these kind of zen moments when their dogs go home.

Annie, the German Shepherd, is doing 6 weeks of training with us. In this video, she is practicing her âdown stayâ with lots of distractions.
Murphy makes daily progress in his training. We are proud of the work he is doing.
Murphy spent an hour at the farm store today. He walked all of the aisles, got used to lots of different noises and waited patiently while we had a couple of very pleasant conversations with people who had questions about his training. In this video, he is very near the entry and exit doors and you can see he is quite relaxed inspite of all of the activity going on around him. Way to go Murphy! đđ¶đ
Murphy took a field trip to Loweâs to learn how to be calm and confident in all kinds of different situations. We walked up and down all of the aisles and then spent considerable time just sitting and watching people walk by. Murphy did a great job and we are looking forward to taking him again. Way to go Murph! We are proud of you.
Willow Sims has been giving her dad a hard time and refusing to load up in the car. As you can tell, we are pretty happy about their progress in this video! We love it when our training makes a difference for our clients and their dogs. It makes our hearts super happy!
Here is a video of 6 of our training dogs working on staying on their âplacesâ. They are all puppies less than 1 year old. Nalu, Tucci, Lexi, Daisy, Luna and Yeti all did a great job :)
Dutton was our Puppy Preschool student last week. In this video, Dutton is learning the âleave itâ command. This command can be extremely helpful, if you have dropped something on the floor that you do not want your puppy to eat. We think Dutton is absolutely adorable in this video! đ¶â€ïžđ
