Companion Cats

Companion Cats Companion Cats is a 501(c)(3) non-profit run by volunteers that seek to find homes for unowned cats.

Once spayed our goal is to place them in an environment that best fits each cat. This method provides the most humane living situation possible. Both friendly and feral alike deserve the perfect forever home. If the cat is not very friendly but is homeless, perhaps this means being a β€œBarn Buddy” or being introduced into a controlled colony. If feral kittens are found, it might mean living in a vo

lunteer foster home where they can be socialized until old enough to be tested for FIV & FeLV, spayed, microchipped and vaccinated prior to adoption.

No adoptions today. 😞
But we did have a few folks interested in volunteering with us stop in. Had a few folks drop off donations of food. Unloaded a bunch of donated litter.
Leo and Draco had to sit in time out for a few.
Not a bad Saturday. 😻

UPDATE: All have been allocated.

We have 2 XL and 6 regular sized Breeze litter boxes to give away. If you would like 1 please comment and we will put your name on it for pick up between 12-3 tomorrow. If you can't pick up tomorrow you'll need to wait for the next batch. After the first 8 takers they will be gone but we will post again if/when we get more. We can't use them at the shelter.

WARNING: Long post.
This may be a depressing post but it is a REALITY that needs to be understood. As you probably know, shelters and rescues are FULL beyond capacity and have to turn away pleas for help that we wish we could accommodate. Tango's story should help illustrate why "just one more" can't always happen and why we need help.

Tango came to us in April of 2022 from a gentleman whose kind heart compelled him to take in more cats than he could handle and we agreed to help with getting them vetted and trying to find adopters for the friendly ones. Tango was definitely one of the friendly ones.
Immediately we got him neutered, tested, vaccinated and treated for fleas and ear mites.
About a month later he was treated for Coccidia (a parasite causing diarrhea) that requires diagnosis and antibiotics.
In September 2024 he needed to have 11 teeth removed due to having weight loss from his painful mouth/difficulty chewing.
In December he developed an ear infection which was treated with antibiotic drops.
In March 2025 he suffered a ruptured eardrum from another ear infection in spite of having cleared the previous one. Pain meds and more antibiotics were required.
In June 2025 he needed vet care for an abscess on his face likely from another cat swapping or biting him.
Last week we noticed he appeared bloated and lethargic. His normal appetite and love for treats had lessened. Yet another trip to the vet with him confirmed our fears of FIP and we were told it was too late to try to save him. But we tried anyway...sending him to foster care with someone who has experience with treating FIP cats and curing some. However the vet was correct. It was too late.
He passed away on Wednesday.
Tango needed multiple vet visits, many prescription medicines and lots of cage time for us to attempt to provide adequate care for him in a shelter environment. We are a volunteer run organization that relies on donations to cover all expenses. I won't tally up the total we invested in him because even knowing the outcome we would make those same choices again.
Because that's what NO KILL means.
He mattered to us. Every single cat we have in our care matters. All of the cats that we wish we could say yes to also matter but we simply need more help to keep doing the next right thing for any cat.
Tango had ZERO inquires for adoption during the 3 1/2 years he lived at Companion Cats. He was friendly, affectionate, had no bad habits and other than his health battles (all treatable) was completely adoptable. Had he been in a home it's likely most of the issues would never had happened (maybe I'm wrong but...)

This is why we need FOSTERS. We need ADOPTERS. We need VOLUNTEERS. We need DONATIONS. We will continue helping cats like Tango and the hundreds of others that need it as long as we can.

Because they all matter.

R.I.P. Sweet Tango - you are already missed.
