Dustin in Santa Monica
I have always adopted rescue dogs, whether they wandered up to our porch when I was younger or I went to the county shelter to look. Dustin was scheduled to be put down the day I went and adopted him, and he, like so many other amazing rescue dogs, completely changed my life. In honor of Dustin and all of the fantastic rescue dogs out there, Rising Star K9s is proud to announce the Adoption Initiative. Anyone in the Atlanta area, no matter what shelter or rescue group they adopt from, can now receive one free private training session with their new baby within 60 days of adoption. Research repeatedly has shown that affordable and accessible training keeps dogs in homes, and as part of our mission to keep dogs and their families together, this free session will be available to any new adopter who simply requests an appointment with us. For COVID, we will honor this for adoptions that occurred as early as April.

With the weather cooling off it’s a great time to offer another socially distanced group class! We are now taking votes and registrations on what days and times we should do! Right now we have Saturday at either noon or four pm, and Sunday at 1:30 or 3 pm. Rentley has been with us for service dog task training and some work on his public access skills. His parent wanted to be able to start moving away from training tools and graduating him to a flat collar, and he has went above and beyond our expectations with every skill he has mastered this week. Here is a video demoing his fantastic heel work in a busy store. He easily ignores distractions and stays in position even with pace changes and stops now. He also easily changes direction (will be adding a video later to have another viewpoint of this exercise and some tips on heel work), and checks in with his handler easily. He’s always so happy to work! Way to go Rentley!!!
