This is the last picture taken of Mama Mickie before her surgery. It was taken two days ago and It makes me super sad as she is being transported for the third time in a matter of weeks. Leaving a home where I know she was being adored, but they could not keep her due to an unforeseen family emergency. This picture she is driving closer to where she will have her surgery. This picture resonates to me as it shows her innocence, her confusion, it breaks my heart.
Life for Mama Mickie has not been easy. The grey muzzle shows an older girl, but the reality is those have been fewer, but hard years. Everyone who has met her, has loved her. She is worth loving and more importantly she is still able to love back.
Even though we have brought so many dogs into the rescue who have become an amputee, it is still hard to swallow that we have not been able to do more to save the leg. Hard to swallow that her leg is gone because of what a human has done to her or not done for her.
Today, she lives a new life as a tripod. She will navigate in her new world and still the only thing that has not changed is her lovely disposition. She is a beautiful soul and I only wish we could have done more for her.
What we can do for her, is to give her the gift to find the most amazing home for Mama Mickie. A home where they recognize an old soul, a gentle soul and more importantly a forgiving soul.
My wish for her would be a home completely the opposite of the outside yard where she was left for an unknown amount of time with an injury to her leg. A home where drugs and gang actively were not more important than a nursing mama struggling to care for her babies.
It breaks my heart to think about her trying to care for her babies in such pain and in her condition. To me, she is a super mama.
We brought four of her babies into rescue, we know there were more. I try to forget the mental images of how many more either died or were injured as they were not cared for by these “monsters” that inflicted the injuries to Mama Mickie.
My wish is that she finds a lovely home that deserve this beautiful soul. Today, Mama Mickie will be on her way to her third foster home, a wonderful temporary home, where she will spend the next few days learning life with three legs. Dogs are so smart and she will learn to adapt quickly. But the goal is to find her that “perfect” home where she can live the life she deserves to have and to be loved forever.
